Ian Fleming |
||||
In early 1953, the world caught its first glimpse of a character that would capture the world's imagination and have such a defining effect on the genre of action movies - Commander James Bond, agent 007 - Licence to Kill. His creator was an affluent Englishman playboy who had become involved in espionage during the war for kicks. His own experiences, coupled with his imagination would help create probably the most enduring character ever seen in films, a man whose appeal is greater today than ever, almost fifty years on. |

Gardner was an author who had overcome adversity in his personal life to become one of the most successful novelists of the 1970's, completing a series of novels about a Bond-esque parody character called "Boysie Oakes". He was a natural choice for Fleming's publishers who, in 1979, were on the hunt for an author to reprise the Bond series. |

Raymond Benson |

Benson's first brush with the world of Bond occurred in 1984, when he published what many consider to be the finest written authority on the world of 007 - "The James Bond Bedside Companion". In 1996, when John Gardner released his final Bond novel, Benson was the first choice to take over the role. |
