Lower Jurassic Fossils from North Yorkshire

The three Ammonites below are NOT from North Yorkshire, they are from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, hence the nick name “Scunnies” . All Lower Lias Frodingham Ironstone Lower Jurassic 200 million years old. Unfortunately the site is now closed, alas no more of these beauties. All found and prepared by Mike at YCF. These are not easy to prepare, and are pretty unique.

They don’t look like this when found, in fact they look pretty bland. The shell has been removed to reveal the suture pattern preserved in calcite and then highly polished

Photographs do not do justice to their fantastic colours, shades of green, orange, brown and pink

1. Eparietites impendens - Large fossil, but with no center and damaged outer whirl, but a lovely display piece, shades of white, green and pink  2. Eparietites denotatus - Nice Fossil with great colours, shades of orange, brown, pink and white, not a brilliant centre, but a nice piece 3. Eparietites denotatus - Mum’s fossil, really good large ammonite, shades of green, white and gold
