Hello again Mike,

I have found a photo taken outside my grandparents home at Woodsfield, the cottage at junction of Hawthorn Lane and Jennett Tree Lane. It is of two ladies sitting on a motorcycle. The young lady on the front is a late aunt of mine from Cardiff, one the pillion is my Grandmother, Mrs. Probert  (cannot remember her first name). The motorcycle, a Matchless, would have belonged to my Uncle Jack (sometimes called John). Jack was my mother Violet's, brother. The photo must have been taken very early wartime or maybe before, because of the blackout mask on the headlight, and the road sign at the junction is still intact. road signs were removed during the war.

I wonder if anyone remembers my mothers family? My grandfather, Fred Probert, worked on Madresfield Estate, not sure in what capacity, but I seem to think with the horses for farmwork. Unfortunately, since my mothers recent stroke, it is difficult for her to tell me things now, although she is very interested in what I have been telling her about this website.

My mother has told me many stories of things that happened when she lived there. She witnessed the Spitfire coming down in the field opposite and the pilot landed with his parachute in their field behind the house. (The memorial cairn commemorates the pilot)

regards,

Richard Farrant
