What is the latest version for SyncUs?
Does SyncUs work if I’m using Outlook?
Does SyncUs work with Datebk 3/4/5?
Does SyncUs work if I’m using the latest Palm Desktop version?
Why doesn’t SyncUs show all our dates/contacts?
I’ve got an entry in each list that is just a bit
different – can I copy one entry over the other?
Why does the entry disappear when I try to add it to the
other list?
I’m getting “MSVBVM60.DLL missing” message?
I’m getting “maximum entries exceeded” message?
I’m getting “categories not supported” message?
I’m getting “MSSTDFMT.DLL” file missing message?
The current
release version for SyncUs is 3.0.35.
You can check your version on the About box or on the splash screen as
SyncUs loads. If you are not on the latest version then check the SyncUs Updates page for details of what’s changed
in more recent versions and download the latest version, if required.
Unfortunately
SyncUs does not work if you are synchronizing with Outlook. This is because SyncUs can work with the
exact same files that the Palm Desktop uses but Outlook has its own way of storing
the data.
Unfortunately
SyncUs does not work on a Mac. SyncUs is
currently developed in Microsoft Visual Basic. There’s a chance that I might rewrite
SyncUs in something more portable one day.
Yes, SyncUs
works with Datebk, but due to several complications I have had to limit its use
to Registered Users. Also there is a
limitation when Datebk is used in conjunction with Palm Desktop version
4.1.4. The limitation means that SyncUs
is not able to interpret the Datebk categories in the normal way. The workaround (other than reverting to Palm
Desktop 4.1) is to manually create temporary categories in the Desktop (named,
eg, No1, No2, No3 etc), then run SyncUs and workout the mapping between the
temporary category names and the desired category names and then return to the
Desktop to rename the temporary categories as required.
SyncUs
works with Palm Desktop versions– 4.1.2, 4.1.4 etc. SyncUs version 3 and above is required. However SyncUs does NOT work with Palm Desktop
6.x (aka Palm Desktop by ACCESS), which is the very latest version. It is possible to install Palm Desktop 4.1.x on
Windows 7.
The Base
Directory is where SyncUs will look to find details of available users. It is the install directory of the Palm
Desktop software – often C:\Palm. SyncUs
is actually looking for the file called users.dat. If this file is not found in the Base
Directory then the message “No palm information found in …” is displayed.
SyncUs only
show entries that are different between the two users. So two identical address books will have two
empty lists. Also dates are not shown if
they are before the current date. This
is done to cut down the amount of work to spot the differences in the files
Yes – click
on the entry in one list and then hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard while
clicking on the entry in the other list. Both entries should now be
highlighted. You can now select one of the “Change” buttons to copy one entry
over the other.
Don’t
forget that SyncUs only shows differences, so the moment you add an entry to
the other list they are no longer different and so are not shown. Empty lists means identical
datebooks/addresses.
Since
version 2.3.6 SyncUs is now written in Visual Basic Version 6 which has some
different required files. These files
may not be present if you have just downloaded the new syncus.exe file. The required files are included in the full
SyncUs installation package or can be downloaded from Microsoft. Download VB6 Runtime from microsoft.com
For
unregistered users SyncUs has a limit of 500 entries in the datebook. If you want to check out SyncUs before
purchasing then why not add a couple of pretend users and use SyncUs with those
users.
For
unregistered users SyncUs does not support Datebook categories (neither does
Palm Desktop!). SyncUs can remove categories, if you wish, and then continue,
but then your category information will then be lost.
This is a
required file for SyncUs to work since version 3.0.8. If you get this message you will need to
download the latest syncussetup30.zip and re-install SyncUs.
