SyncUs
3.0
This Windows program lets you share/sync information between 2 or more palm
pilots. It shows you the calendar, address, todo and memo
items that are different on 2
pilots, and lets you transfer any of these items to the other at the
click of a button.
SyncUs must be able to read/write files on the PC to which the pilots are
synced - it will of course normally be the same one, if both pilots are
hotsynced to the same machine!
It is ideal for partners to share dates and addresses when they both sync to
the same PC. It saves a lot of "have you got this date in yours?" and
"I've got their new number, haven't you?"
This program is entirely a windows program, it does
not have any component on the pilots themselves.
This program will run on Windows platforms only.

Note: Every effort has
been made to check for any bugs. Since this program modifies your pilot hotsync
files on your pc, I would suggest that you make a backup copy of your pilot
directory (in case anything goes wrong) and keep it until you are happy that
SyncUs is working as you expect. The program will also make automatic backup
copies of the files. If you need to restore your data for any reason, you can
copy these files back or select the restore menu option in the program itself.
I use SyncUs all the time with my own/my wife's pilots, and have never 'lost'
anything.

You will need Winzip to access to files.
This may take a few minutes as it is 1.6Mb
Download SyncUsSetup30.zip
The program is shareware. It is not crippled in any
way or time disabled. It is the fully functional program, with a registration
nag in the title bar. A couple of advanced features are reserved for registered
users.

Some Instructions on running the program:
The first time SyncUs is run, you will need to specify the users for which you
wish to compare data. The following
screen is presented:

For each user, select the
Base directory and then the user name. The Base Directory is the directory in
which the Palm Desktop software is installed and hence where the Palm files are
located on the PC. An error message is
shown if an invalid Base Directory is specified.
This is the main screen upon normal startup:

Choose one of the sets of data you would like to compare.
This then shows the differences (that’s differences only) between
the two sets of data in the 2 pilots. If you are doing this for the first time,
you may see many more records displayed. It only shows any records that are not
exactly the same in both the pilot files and only dates from today forwards.
The buttons automatically become enabled/disabled depending on the entries
highlighted in each list.
For example, if you highlight a New record on the right user list, only the
‘add left’ button and ‘delete right’ buttons will be
enabled.
If the name matches in the user lists, but the information in the details is
different then you can scroll through the details that are listed below the
selections, and find out what the differences are. Now you can click on the
change button (either change right to copy the details from the left user to
the right user or vice versa) and change one of the records. You can also add
one record into the other user's file if you want to keep both sets (you would
also have to add the other record into the first).
The final situation is when the names don't match exactly (but the records are
the same - due to spelling error). The record on the left is clicked, and there
is no match on the right.
To force the program to match up a record on the right, hold down the control
key
It is possible to edit the Date description for the currently highlighted
entry, by simply changing the text shown in the first detail box. It is also possible to edit the Note for
Date, Contact or ToDo entries by clicking on the ‘Edit Notes’
button.
It is possible to tell
SyncUs to ignore certain Categories. Clicking on the ‘Show
Categories’ will list the Categories for each user and by deselecting the
‘Show this Category’ check box, SyncUs will no longer show entries
for this Category.
It is also possible to edit
the Category for an entry. Provided the
Category is shown, just right click on the entry in the list and select the new
Category from the popup menu.
Also see the Configure
screen for other available options.
Upon exiting the program, you will be asked if you want to save any changes
made. (If you have made at least one change). If you click cancel, the user's
files will be left untouched.
Of course you must then hotsync both pilots in order to get the changes onto
them!!!
Please e-mail me with any enhancements/bug reports. Try to include steps to
reproduce any errors because if I can repeat an error then I can fix it!
