Mission Statement
To improve the accessibility to mainstream services for trans persons by the provision of good quality, cost effective Transgender Awareness Training.
Brief History of the GAB
The GAB was set up in 2004 to deliver cost effective training to Professionals whether from the public or private sector.
Its aims are to raise awareness of the ‘facts’ and dispel the myths around Transgender, Transsexualism and Transvestism; therefore assisting persons living with gender variance, and their families, to access mainstream services and help with gaining employment. Further to raise awareness around relevant legislation, to whom it applies, when it applies and what the obligations are for services working with Trans persons.
The GAB is not a political lobbying body or activism driven. Although the GAB is primarily a training provider, through our educational work we aim to raise awareness of the work of other services such as the regional Charity Gender Matters, the National Charity GIRES (Gender Identity Research & Education Society) and PFC (Press for Change) amongst others, who provide very important services on behalf of the trans community across the UK.
What do we do?
The G.A.B delivered its first Level 2 training to 16 diversity officers from the police service in August 2003. This training session was a succesful 'test' of the product and from that point on we have continued to develop new products to meet the demand for quality, cost effective training,
Since that date the GAB has worked with many Businesses and Organisations such as the Police, Fire & Rescue Service, Counsellors, GP's, Town Councils, Housing Services, Probation Officers and many more. See Who have we trained section.
We provide in-house training, special multi-agency training days, regular seminars and much more see training options our Online College also provides a Home Study course which when completed awards a Diploma in Transgender Studies, see GABC
If you do not see the kind of training you require on our training options page, we are able to sit down with your service and after assessing the needs of your team, prepare a prgramme of training specifically aimed at the needs of your service.
What kind of training do we provide?
Our training is an ABC approach to gender identity (how we self identify as male or female or neither) and gender expression (What we choose to show to the world); An overview on the whole subject.
Although we fully support guest speakers, the dangers of one persons experience or view is simply that 'one persons view' and as we are all individuals and are all 'unique by our individuality' training has to be broader than that.
The GAB take an overview approach to trans, the whole subject of transvestism and dual role transvestism; the whole subject of transsexualism and the sex reassigment process. We look at the legislative approach and how legislation applies not anly to the trans person but to your service and we look at barriers to engaging with the trans community and/or barriers to the trans community enagaging with your service.
On occasion we have guest speakers working alongside our trainers, many of our trainers indeed live with a trans identity themselves however our training programmes aim to merely smash through assumptions and misunderstandings and replace these with facts.

Gender Advisory Bureau Planned development in 2009.
Like any succesful company the GAB needs to grow and develop to remain competitive in the professional training business.
As part of the on going development of our company we are planning a range of steps in the 2009 year including:
1) To continue with developing the Investors in People scheme if possible.
2) To expand our Corporate Sponsorship membership to represent our National provision of training.
3) To research new products.
4) To produce a Version 4 of our succesful Diploma in Transgender Studies
and to introduce some new products to our already comprehensive trans awareness training programme.
