During the late 1930's the Lodge fell into disrepair as it was not leased during the war. It came into private ownership when a Mrs. Walton bought it for herself and her husband to retire into in 1951. Purchased from Invercauld Estate.

In 2000, Simon & Lindsey Gray gave up they're life in London and bought the Lodge to run as a B&B. They found the B&B business very tying as they had 3 young children and decided to do weekend house parties instead. This proved to be the balance they were looking for and the business thrived.

It was in 2006 that we, the Buchanans, came on the scene. We had been looking for a business for a couple of years but had not found anything we both liked. We didn't really know the area but like most folk, once you come here, you just want to come back time and time again. The minute we saw the lodge and entered it's warm and welcoming interior we fell in love. As we have many regular customers we have kept the House Party format the same as when the Gray's ran it. There are ony a few decor changes and we hope you enjoy.

It is a wonderful building, with many foibles but just as much warmth and atmosphere. Not a hotel and certainly more than your average guest house, we love Gairnshiel Lodge and we hope you will too.
