Located in Pune, the K K Eye Institute
is managed and run by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, a non profit charitable mission.
The K K Eye Institute is a major thrust towards
Community Ophthalmology, as it is an independent organization with a mission
to combat eye disease and reduce avoidable blindness through a comprehensive
approach to eye care.
In adherence to the
On the date of the camp - our technical team from the
hospital (including an ophthalmologist) visits the camp and examines the
patients. Following which ambulances are sent out for a pick up and patients
are brought to the hospital and then admitted for the surgery.
The Operation Theatres and the Community Ophthalmology Wing
(Sight for the Sightless Programme) started in October 2003. Since it's
functioning, the Institute has performed over 17,332 FREE surgeries (as of 28
Feb, 07) for villagers from various rural areas of
Based on the Mission Philosophy, the same doctors, equipment
and facilities are used to treat the poor and the rich alike. The sophisticated
angiography machine, the ultra sonography machine, the high end operating
microscopes, the high end slit lamps etc. are being used with no discrimination
for all who need the service. We believe you will be happy to know that no
villager is turned away for want of any other ophthalmic treatment - besides
cataract. There have been cases of Glaucoma, DCT and Retina that have been
treated additionally.
The volumes are growing and the plan for the coming financial
year is to operate at least 8000 villagers, where every little bit helps and
your contribution will bring along the gift of sight.
