Showing World Feb/March 2011 Edition – Olympia report
“This year saw a change in the Breed sections with the Welsh Section A's
moving from the Small breeds to join their Welsh Section B brethren. Going
first isn't easy but proving “Shooting stars never stop even when they reach
the top” was the past HOYS Cuddy Supreme In Hand regular Gartconnel Shooting
Star owned by John & Liz Russell who was the only pony forward for judging
having the distinction of being a NPS in hand breed champion when led by Colin
Tibbey. On his second trip to Olympia and ridden by Catherine Hudson throughout
his short career under saddle the white grey stallion maintained even paces
throughout his show to gain the distinction of taking home the beautiful
Heniarth Junior Rider Sculpture for his jockey, the Duntarvie Small breeds
Owner/Breeder trophy for the Gartconnel Stud based between the Campsie Hills
and Loch Lomond in Scotland and also stand top of his breed and finish in
overall third place .”

Gartconnel Starturn, a five year old stallion by Gartconnel Shooting Star,
shown successfully in hand as a three year old, beginning to turn heads as he
experiences his first outings under saddle.
A successful SWPCA Young Judges Day
was held at Gartconnel on Easter Monday. Seven potential Young Judges attended
plus parents and their instructor, Charlie Cousens.
Blessed with good weather, Charlie Cousens talked the participants through
conformation, breed type & showing criteria – there was enthusiastic
participation with plenty of comments and opinions expressed with plenty of
debate on placings and whys and wherefores. Thanks go to the SWPCA and our
wonderful young members and their supporters.
