What's New?

31st October 2005

Numerous things to mention:

1    Updated GedCom file is now available from the download page (follow the Download link on the left).

2    A new Edmondson! Congratulations to Duncan & Abi on the birth of their son Benjamin on 22nd September.

3    A thank you to everyone who made it to Grandma's 90th birthday party, a thoroughly good do, I'm sure you'll agree.

4    Thanks in particular to all of you who expressed your interest in the family tree, it's fun to do and has been very rewarding but the best thing about it is sharing it with the family who are after all what it is all about. I know a number of you very kindly offered to send me extra details and/or photos which can be mailed to me at: Tom Lord, The Hawthorns, 2 Monroe Close, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 7QN. Rest assured, all I need is a digital scan of photos and will return any that are sent to me. If you'd prefer you can email me info / photos at tom.lord@glenold.co.uk

8th May 2005 - Complete Overhaul!

Numerous things to mention:

1    Updated GedCom file is now available from the download page (follow the Download link on the left).

2    A new upgrade is available for Family Historian - V2.3.5 (follow the Family Historian link on the left).

3    A new upgrade is available for GedCom Census - V4.0.7 (follow the Family Historian link on the left).

4    The whole GedCom data is now available to view using the Family Tree Details link on the left. This has replaced the Family Groups section, which was getting a bit time consuming to maintain. It is now created automatically using a GedCom to Web conversion program.

5    The Family Tree Diagram page has been updated to show the recent breakthrough with the LORD surname, for those of you that don't know, I have recently discovered several generations of LORD's in Weston Underwood & Olney in Buckinghamshire (follow the Tree Diagram link on the left).

6    And last but not least, congratulations to Caroline and Nick, following their recent wedding up North. A thoroughly good family day out!

23rd Mar 2005 - Mary Murby Confirmed!

Have received John Lord's birth certificate b1845 as registered by his father William (will post shortly), also shows mother as Mary Lord formerly Murby which had been suspected for a while by both myself and Michael Lord.

Also on order but not yet arrived as John Lord's marriage certificate for 1879 to Elizabeth Lee. I am hoping to confirm Elizabeth's parents as I have a shortlist of 2 possible families at the moment and it would be fantastic to discover William Lord's place of birth as the 1841 census shows him as being born outside the county of Leicestershire although this may just have been a slip of the Enumerator's pencil! Will post more information as it arrives.

7th Mar 2005 - A new Lord!

A big hello to baby Matilda Scarlett Lord, new arrival for John and Jo, born today in the early hours, she weighs 8lb 8oz and both Mother and Baby are doing fine.

I have placed Family Historian software downloads on this page but must stress the following: This software is licensed for 1 user ONLY and is provided for evaluation purposes only (prior to purchasing, see Amazon link on links page). I leave it up to you how long you evaluate it for!

A McCormack Breakthrough / Interesting Askham Stuff

Well, two interesting bits this week, firstly a letter from a Mrs Jean Fall, whom I had contacted through the Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society (LRFHS). She remembers being taken to see Uncle Will and Auntie Sarah when she was a child. Uncle Will and Auntie Sarah are in fact Grandma's parents and Jean is the daughter of Martin McCormack b1893 and Eliza. She also gave me the name of Patrick McCormack who was Grandma's Great Grandpa and another child of Patrick and Catherine that I hadn't come across.

Don't tell Grandma! As I will take her the letter as a surprise soon.

Secondly, Dad turned up some interesting stuff on the Askham line:

In 1863, John Askham published his first book of poetry entitled “Sonnets on the Months: and other poems, Descriptive, Domestic and National”. It was published by public subscription and one of his subscribers was Rev. H. M. Roxby of Wellingborough who purchased 3 copies. He also purchased 3 copies of the second book published in 1866 and entitled “Descriptive Poems, Miscellaneous Pieces, Scriptural, Descriptive, Biographical and Miscellaneous Sonnets”, and 2 copies of the third book published in 1868 and entitled “Judith and other poems; and a Centenary of Sonnets”.

In 1871 census, the same Reverend Henry Meux Roxby is to be found as Vicar of Apethorpe and Woodnewton and lodging in a house in Woodnewton some 5 doors away from the “Swan Public House” (I think this is probably the Manor House judging by the number of occupants). His wife, Caroline B. Roxby aged 29 is living in Wellingborough with their son Henry M. aged 1.

In 1875 when the village was provided with its own Vicarage at a cost of some £2000 on land given by the then Earl of Westmoreland of Apethorpe Hall, a new Vicar, Rev. Henry Salmon Bagshaw was installed. Reverend Roxby can next be found in the 1881 census as Vicar of Buckden in Huntingdonshire with a wife Caroline, a son born in Woodnewton in 1872, another born in Woodnewton in 1874 and two more sons at age 4 years and 4 months respectively both born in Buckden. Henry M. Roxby Junior now aged 11, is a boarder at Shorne College, North Marston, Buckinghamshire.

7th Feb 2005

Well, pretty much everything! I've designed a nice little tree background thingy, posted an up to date tree on the diagram page and received from Michael Philip Lord a copy birth certificate for Thomas Henry Lord b1879 - I will post that on the sources page soon.
