Frequently asked questions
Can we
have a camp fire?
Yes, at time of writing.
We have no objection to campers having a small controlled constantly attended
camp fire. We have a number of truncated beer barrels which make good fire braziers,
and more recently we’ve acquired several old washing machine drums which are
excellent. We don’t mind campers bringing their own braziers (garden centres
seem to be selling braziers nowadays) so long as they keep the main heat off of
the grass and prevent scorch damage to the field surface. Many people come here
specifically because we allow fires and it would be shame to have to stop them.
We normally have firewood available for sale in sacks but please check before
coming of you intend to buy from us. You are welcome to bring wood with you so
long as there are no nails or staples in it and it’s not got paint or creosote
on it. Please bear in mind that not everyone likes camp fires and so you may
need to consider where you pitch on arrival.
Can we
arrive late?
We appreciate that many
people come up on a Friday from long distances and expecting them to get here
before dinner is unrealistic. We would prefer people to arrange things in
advance so that they, or at least someone from their party, can arrive before 6pm.
We can live with later arrival by prior arrangement but please mention this
when you book. If things go wrong on the day you come then please call and keep
us informed. When booking, check the internet for the sunset times here on the
day you arrive.
Be aware that if you
arrive after dark there will be no light anywhere on the fields. Don’t put
tents up under headlights from vehicles with engines running, simultaneously
waking up and poisoning other campers. People who do that normally go on to
find that they have also forgotten something fundamental to the tent going up –
such a pegs! In the past it has been found that late arrivals don’t work well
for us or other campers but as previously stated if agreed in advance it’s
acceptable. Bookings for the woodland camping really do need to be in early, if
at all possible before 6pm.
Are dogs
allowed?
There are sheep, cattle
and poultry on our own, and neighbouring land so any dogs must be kept under
very strict control, and on the camping fields that means on a lead or
similar restraining leash at all times. So long as this can be
assured, then we are happy for people to bring dogs. There are 20 acres of
woodland here which make ideal dog walking territory. Obviously it should go
without saying that any ‘accidents’ are cleared up immediately. Please don’t
bring ‘yappy’ dogs here. Depending on what livestock we have around, dogs maybe
walked off lead in our woodland if it’s not too busy with campers.
Single
gender groups?
We see that many other
sites will not allow all male or all female groups. That is not the case here
and we welcome anyone so long as they are ‘good campers’, and do not pursue any
activities which are likely to upset or disturb other campers. As long as
people are quiet and responsible then there is no problem. In general, if you
want to make a booking for a group then please call for a chat first.
How good
is the caravan access?
The 1 mile long lane which
leads to our farm entrance from the A4109 is single track. Because of a hill
when approaching from the South end, we recommend caravans enter from the north
direction. There is a canopy of trees running the full length of the lane and
no doubt one or two leaves are going to brush the side and roof. We get
deliveries from large goods vehicles which suffer no damage, but you do have to
be careful. Many people have brought caravans here without problems and they
tell me that compared with many places they have taken vans, such as the Gower,
our lane is acceptable. Obviously after heavy prolonged rain the field can get
slippery and soft as it would anywhere. If you are coming down following
adverse weather it’s worth checking first. We wouldn’t recommend bringing a
caravan here that’s longer than about 20ft with the ‘A’ frame.
Are you
open all year round?
We would say we are open
from Easter to the end of October, but that’s not written in stone. If people
particularly wanted to come down out of season then we would do our best to
accommodate them although some of our facilities might not be available.
Contact us to discuss that.
Can we
turn up unannounced?
No. Even we get the
occasional weekend away. We need to know you are coming. Our mobile number is
shown on the contact page if you need to get in touch at short notice. We are
strictly bookings only. It’s a small operation here and we only allow small
numbers here at any one time.
What
facilities do you have on-site?
3 flat to gently sloping
grass fields. A Kitchen containing a deep sink and standard sink/drainer.
Drinking water, Hot water. 2 flushing type toilets and 2 chemical loos. 2 pumped
electric showers. A chemical waste disposal tank. A soak-away with stand pipe.
4 electrical hook-up points. Plug sockets. Kettle, communal fridge and
microwave, shaver socket with mirror, rotary washing line. Waste and re-cycling
bins. We can freeze ice packs for you, and also re-charge batteries if
required. We can also do a service wash and tumble dry if required.
Are there
rules for children?
Yes. This is a working
farm and not a farm park. Children need to be supervised. On recent occasions
we have had problems with children leaving the camping field and being in
places they shouldn’t be both for reasons of privacy and safety. It’s
embarrassing to have to raise these issues with parents so please don’t put us
in that position. Unless children can behave, please find another site. Farms
are full of dangers. Following an incident in mid-Wales in 2007, we must make
it a rule that children are closely supervised by an adult at all times whilst
on the premises.
