About Us

I’m Sharron O'Gorman and, having become an insurance broker in 1980, I opened my own business, Golden Valley Insurance Services, in 1988 to provide three specialist insurances covering birds, photographic equipment and musical equipment. I have considerable experience and interest in all those subjects.

My husband and I have kept parrots for the past 28 years and in 1987, had 58 Macaws, Amazons, Cockatoos and African Greys. We still have a much-loved Blue-Fronted Amazon, Lucky, who was the first bird that we gave a home to so I understand just how much birds mean to their owners.

I enjoy wildlife photography, videography and sound recording in my leisure time and have spent many hours in a hide waiting for that magical, special wildlife moment or sound and to capture it. Our Photocover policy has wide cover and we have been appointed as insurers to members of the Nikon Owners Club International. Whatever make or type of equipment you have, you will always be dealing with someone who understands your hobby or profession.

I was also a professional musician for 21 years so I understand a musician’s insurance needs. I travelled all over the UK with my parents and brother as a family show and loved every minute of it, having started working on stage at the age of 10!

When you call us, you will be speaking to either me or Marion, who has been working with me for the past 15 years. Between us, we provide a first rate professional insurance service – no call centres, nor “ press 1” for this or “2” for that. You get straight through to us during office hours and there is an answering machine out of office hours so you can reach us at any time. When you make an enquiry, we let you have all the information but we never make follow up calls. I don’t like being pestered myself so I don’t subject others to it! We leave it to you to make your own decision.
