Goodwin and Associates is a long estabished NHS Dental Practice in the West Cumbian market town of Cockermouth on the edge of the Lake District about 25 miles South-West of Carlisle and 30 miles West of Penrith both of which are on the M6 and the West Coast Main Railway Line.
Cockermouth is a lively small town where the rivers Derwent and Cocker meet.
The practice occupies an attractive Georgian building on the upper part of Kirkgate. We have 4 modern well-equiped surgeries each with X-Ray facilities. We use the EXACT computer Dental Software system with terminals in every surgery. There is a recently installed separate clinical sterilization room and we have just achieved the BDA Good Practice Award. The Practice is owned and run by a former associate who has lived in the area for 15 years and shares the clinical work with 4 associate dentists and the FD. We carry out the full range of treatments available on the NHS and there are special interests in concious sedation and endodontics and implantology. We offer non-NHS cosmetic treatments to existing patients if they request these though this is only a relatively small part of our work. Two dentists are trainers and we serve a varied population of all ages and from all walks of life many individuals and families having been registered with the practice for over 20 years. With 5 dentists, 1FD, 6 qualified nursing staff and 1 training at Carlisle College, 3 receptionists, an administrator and a Practice Manager we are a busy and enthusiastic team who as well as the Dentists weekly working lunch-at the local Award-Winning Micro Brew Pub 100yds away- also enjoy a calendar of regular social events.
The Lake District and the nearby Solway Coast are famous for outdoor activities and the fellwalking cycling golf endurance riding and triathlon interests of our dentists reflect a few of these. The Cockermouth Arts and film centre is nearby with a larger theatre and music venue in Keswick an easy 20 minute drive away. Newcastle is just under a 2 hour drive away - Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Manchester are just a little further.
The practice offers a rewarding and interesting clinical training year with a wide variety of patients as part of a friendly and supportive team in a beautiful but acessible part of North-West England.
