Bipolar forceps for Neurosurgery - Now Class III devices

Bipolar forceps are used, among others, in neurosurgery for the manipulation and coagulation of blood vessels. Therefore, they are products in accordance with Rule 6 of the Directive 93/42/EEC intended for use in direct contact with the central nervous system and have to be classified as

Risk class III.

All our bipolar forceps are certificated as Class III as of 22.03.2010. and a certificate relating to this can be emailed to those requiring it.

Update regards Bipolar fly leads and requirement for block fittings

Stop save money: BS EN 60601-2-2:2009 standard was updated in August 2009. There is a NEW specific sub clause relating to the use of HF cords and exempting them from the requirement to use a fixed width fitting. Bipolar "Fly leads" are still acceptable to purchase and use.

Sub clause 201.8.5.2.3 goes into the details, but basically the HF equipment that the HF leads are plugged into is only accessible and under the supervision of highly trained proffesionals, and hence has been exempted.
