XY traces, dot density plots and greyscale images are formats commonly used to display gradiometer data. The latter two (above middle and right) are useful for presenting a plan of the data, showing the pattern and extent of anomalies. The XY trace (above left) provides information about the nature of the response - its strength and form - which can help determine its possible origin (archaeological, ferrous, natural etc). The images above show a "classic" pit-type anomaly.
