SCHOOL DISPLAYS

OPTION 1 (WITH PHOTOGRAPHS)

We have been visiting schools with our birds of prey for many years and find it to be very rewarding for everyone involved.  The usual programme is as follows:
8.30am We will arrive at school - 3 falconers and approximately 14 different types of birds of prey, all of which are tame and friendly.
9.15am to
10.30
All the children assemble in the hall.  At this time we will bring inside and fly various small birds and ask for volunteers, also we tell the children about each type of bird i.e. habitat and the problems they face in the wild.
10.30

Stop for break

11am Two classes of children will come to Carol and myself and have the opportunity to have a photo taken with one of the birds (normally a barn owl).  If all the children have their photo taken (class of 30) it will take about 10 mins.  When the first two groups have been photographed they go back to class and the next two classes will come out.  We will work on this rota basis until dinner time. We can photograph 400 children in about an hour and half (oh yes we can).
After dinner All the children assemble outside and we will fly the larger birds i.e. Hawks, Falcon and the magnificent Eagle Owl - this will take approx. 45 mins
End of day.
Our talk and display can be adapted to cater for children as young as nursery right though to college students.  We can cover many topic that fall within the national curriculum i.e. Geography, History, Living Art etc.

Hawkshead falconry is renowned for its falconry display and we receive many letters from children and teachers commenting on the birds and how much they enjoyed the day and seeing them flying.

If you would like us to visit your school or would like more information please ring us on 01582 861564. Please note there is a £40.00 booking fee on the Option 1 display, which helps towards the costs.
