As one of the leading herbal medicines companies, we get lots
of questions about them from you through this website and also via
our retailers and through our consumer research.
So here to help you are the answers to some of the most frequently
asked questions we receive:
 |
How do herbal medicines work?
|
 |
Each herbal medicine in our range contains a different combination
of herb and plant extracts. These are often based on traditional
remedies that have been recognised for their positive medicinal
effects for thousands of years. All herbal medicines have a
gentle, cumulative effect on your system, helping your body
to combat the condition it is treating. |
 |
How long should I take a herbal medicine for? |
 |
Take the medicine for a long as you are seeing an improvement
in the condition it is treating or for the prescribed course.
With some medicines, such as our Period Pain Relief, it is most
effective taken on an on-going basis to regularise the body's
metabolism. |
 |
Can I take these medicines while breast feeding? |
 |
It is best to avoid any medication while breast feeding, but
some herbal medicines can be taken. However, if you experience
any unusual side effects you should stop taking the medicine
and consult your doctor. |
 |
Can herbal medicines be given to children? |
 |
You need to check the instructions for each individual medicine.
For example our Asthma & Catarrh and Hay Fever & Sinus
treatments can be given to children over 5 years old, but most
other herbal medicines should not be given to children under
12 years old and some to anyone under 16 years old. |
 |
Can I take herbal medicines with any other drugs? |
 |
Most herbal medicines have no known interaction or effect
on other medicines. But if you are regularly taking another
prescribed drug, it is best to consult your doctor first before
taking any other type of medication |
 |
Will herbal medicines have any side effects? |
 |
For most people, herbal medicines are generally free from
any side effects, particularly the drowsiness caused by many
drugs. However, you should check whether they can be given
to children under 16 years old and should stop taking them
if you think you may be pregnant. Medicines containing Avena
should not be taken by anyone with a gluten sensitivity. Herbal
medicines to treat Asthma or Catarrh should not be taken by
anyone with a heart or generally debilitating condition, or
suffering from exhaustion or shock such as after an asthmatic
attack.
For anyone taking Herbal Concepts stress or tension relief
medicines, none of the ingredients have any addictive properties
and because they work gently, there are no noticeable side
effects when the course of treatment is stopped.

 |
Should I tell my doctor I'm taking a herbal medicine?
|
 |
Yes. If you are already taking a prescribed medicine you
should consult your doctor before taking a herbal or any other
type of medicine. In other cases, it is a good idea to tell
your doctor which herbal medicine you are taking.
