The Thames ring

canal lockNorth

Along the beautiful Cherwell Valley, past the bustle of Banbury and its superb shopping centre, up through the pretty villages of Cropredy and Claydon, across the beautifully remote summit pound as you reach into Warwickshire, and then down the locks towards Warwick, Rugby, or Stoke Bruerne.

Plenty of canalside pubs & villages, stunning scenery, and the narrow locks and lift bridges adding activity to a memorable holiday, right here in England… recommended for novice crews and old hands alike!

South

Through the more wooded section of the valley, thence passing the classic canal village of Thrupp on your way to Oxford.

Oxford skylineChoose to head downstream past some of the prettiest riverside villages as far as, perhaps, Goring; or head lazily upstream through winding watermeadows and sleepy villages to Lechlade (easily achievable in a week), – and don’t forget to go the extra mile to visit the old Thames & Severn Canal entrance and Roundhouse at Inglesham, at the head of the Thames.

Don’t forget to allow enough time when planning your journey for a slower upstream journey against the current!

N.B. An extra licence is required to cruise on the Thames if cruising from our Heyford base. Alternatively why not book a boat from our NEW Radcot base on the River Thames...
