My journey with Natural Horsemanship started with a horse that was very emotional and whose trust in humans was broken.

I tried conventional techniques and sought advice from experienced horseman, but I knew something was missing. I wasn't actually communicating with my horse, we were speaking totally different languages. Without knowing how to resolve the problem I set about researching different types of Horsemanship, in the hope of an answer.

In my search I came across the Parelli program. I watched the videos, read the leaflets and eagerly enrolled on the study programme. That journey was an emotional rollercoaster (for the horse and me), there were tears and laughter, as my long suffering husband will tell. But the eureka moments make it all worth while.

That horse has now moved on, we learned so much from each other, it changed both our lives.

Still searching for new ideas, I found Vanessa Bee, Philip Osbourne and Positive Horsemanship. I decided to train as a Positive horsemanship trainer for my own education and to help others in their search for a better relationship with their horse/pony.

Most people think that Natural Horsemanship is too soft and can lead to an undisciplined horse, nothing could be further from the truth. It involves both mental and physical fitness for the horse and rider which brings respect from both parties. Natural Horsemanship can be as frustrating, as rewarding and as comprehensive as conventional riding etc. It should not be seen as an alternative, but part of the nature of horsemanship.

Reiki

As a Reiki Practitioner I often see horses still showing the effects of pain, fear or confusion from a previous home/owner. This can block the bond with a new owner, leading to a range of issues that need to be cleared.

Reiki can be offered to the individual / partnership, in a sole session or as part of the ground work. Balance is very important in the moving forward process and reiki is a very good therapy to enhance development.

And most horses love it!
