This
album features Arthur Lowe reading nursery rhymes written
by Richard Harvey, about all sorts of strange and clever
animals.
Between
each story we hear an incredibly annoying electronic sound,
which Arthur explains is a special signal that allows the
listeners to move about from one place in the world to the
next, e.g. one story to the next. This album is clearly
designed for young children, but adult fans of Arthur Lowe
will find it pleasant to listen to as well. The LP has an
upbeat music track which is heard between the various stories,
as we are 'moving about'.
As well as Arthur reading the rhyming stories, some of the
tracks are in fact songs (tracks 4, 6, 10 and 15). These
tracks don't feature Arthur at all. They are unknown artists.
Interestingly, another track in exactly the style of those
from this album exists, but did not get released on this
LP. David Noades, who was responsible for finding this album
for the DAAS New Zealand Branch, also found the bonus track,
called 'The Kangaroo of Waterloo' on the 1998 compact disc
release 'Children's Animal Fairyland - the Land of Make
Believe', which was released on the Songs For Children
label as SFCD 023.
Thanks to Dave Homewood and David Noades for the information
revealed in this article.
