A Songsheet for "Grandad" as featured on Clive Dunn's "Permission To Sing Sir!" Album

Whilst working on the Yorkshire TV Series "Jokers Wild", it was suggested to Clive Dunn by writer Ray Cameron that he should record an album.

"Permission to Sing Sir" was released in 1970 for the Christmas market, encompassing Clive's success as Lance Corporal Jones in "Dad's Army" and his recent Number One Hit "Grandad".

The album, more frequently than enough, features Clive in "Lance Corporal Jones" character - infact, he appears as him on the cover and is even referred to as Jonesy on the song "As Long As It Entertains You". The album, is quite a lot of fun to listen to, with some catchy tunes that will have you singing along after a few choruses (if your that way inclined!). The styles border from Music Hall to Pop, but Clive manages to pull the album off successfully.

The Columbia Records release of this album was only available for a limited time, perhaps more to poor sales as the album was not a great chart success. Therefore, it was reissued by EMI the following year on their budget Music For Pleasure label where it enjoyed a longer lifespan. Read on...
