Arranging for the platoon to go to Eastgate to see a training film, Captain Mainwaring is thrown into front-line battle against the enemy when the church bell sounds.

With only Jones, Frazer and Godfrey by his side, they take up battle post at Godfrey's cottage, so that any would be invaders will not penetrate Walmington.

Unaware of Captain Mainwaring's situation, Sgt. Wilson and Pike are under the impression that Godfrey's cottage has been captured by the enemy, as a battle ensues, everyone begins to wonder which side will surrender first.

Cast:
Arthur Lowe (Captain Mainwaring) , John Le Mesurier (Sergeant Wilson), Clive Dunn (Lance Corporal Jones), John Laurie (Private Frazer), Arnold Ridley (Private Godfrey), Ian Lavender (Private Pike),Bill Pertwee (The ARP Warden), Nan Braunton (Cissy Godfrey), Percy Edwards (Percy the Parrot) John Snagge (BBC Announcer)

Now Pay Attention...

Bill Pertwee makes his first radio appearance as Captain Mainwaring's main foil - the ARP Warden.

The radio version of "The Battle of Godfrey's Cottage" only features one of Godfrey's sisters - Cissy. Nan Braunton recreates her television role here while popular radio animal impersonator Percy Edwards features in the role of Percy the Parrot.

Mainwaring's line when emptying a flowerpot from Godfrey's cottage windowsill - converting it into a helmet for Jones to wear is a classic..."Sorry about your geraniums Godfrey…but this is war".

James Beck does not appear in this episode.
