Over the Summer of 1979, Arthur Lowe starred in Derek Benfield's new comedy Beyond A Joke.

Also featuring in this production was Arthur's wife, Joan Cooper and actor Peter Greene, both of whom had previously appeared in episodes of Dad's Army.

I was fortunate enough to find this programme in a second hand bookshop in Tenby recently for merely a pound!

The striking feature that hits you is that Arthur Lowe is firmly given the starring credit for this production, by now of course Arthur - a household name - had completed all work on Dad's Army and had recorded his first series of Potter for the BBC and Bless Me Father for ITV.

There are also references to this production in Stephen Lowe's book Arthur Lowe - Dad's Memory

Written and researched by Andy Howells.
