Why the name 'The Hurlimann Band'? Well, David Blosse formed the band in the early 80's. And originally named it 'The Hurlimann Brothers'. He'd decided on the name as a nod of respect to his favourite lager.
It just so happened that most of the gigs in those days were in pubs that sold Hurlimann Lager. And it was not long before Shepherd Neame Ltd, the brewery who imports the lager from Switzerland, got to hear about the band. They wrote to David demanding to know why he was using their name. David replied: "As I have, over the years, consumed so much of your wonderful product. I figure that I’m entitled to use that name". Click
here for the reply he received from them.

The band has undergone continuous change since it's formation, not only in name but also the line up of personnel. The only constant has been David, and of course, Hurlimann as the essential part of the name. The line up has ranged from a twelve piece, which included a serious horn section, to just a trio, with guitar, drums, and keyboard. The current number is now six. Though it's not unusual for a guest instrument to appear at a gig.
.

The current line up has been performing since early year 2000. That year they appeared at
the Severn Revels Festival Gloucester and also at Sidmouth International Folk Festival.
Gloucester was their first major gig, and the reception was just fantastic. Sidmouth was another outstanding success.
The Band have since proven to be quite in their element playing large festivals around the country. And are in fact scheduled to return to Sidmouth next year.
The guys really enjoy their time there, and are eternally grateful to Bernard and Pauline, the owners of the Marlborough Hotel , for the hospitality shown to them during their stay.
