Fundraising- Mens 1st XI Bare All for Fun and Funds
Formby’s national league men’s hockey team are baring all for the sake of their club.
The team, which includes England players Chris Seddon and Andy Halpin, stripped off for a series of cheeky photos which will adorn a calendar aimed at raising funds for the club.
Formby need to raise tens of thousands of pounds towards replacing their worn out astro pitch and renewing lighting, fencing and a car park.
The First Phase of works is £400,000, of which £175,000 has been earmarked by Sport England, pending approval of the plans. The balance will be met through a mixture of loans and fundraising.
Men’s first team captain David Seddon said: “We had a lot of fun with the photo shoot, even though it was very early on a bitterly cold Sunday morning. We had a professional photographer – Graham Sherriff – who kindly volunteered his services and the results are surprisingly tasteful!”
Each page of the calendar is being sponsored by local businesses and copies will be sold at £7 in different outlets around the area.
David added: “The hockey section at Formby Cricket Hockey and Squash Club is extremely successful and is growing all the time. We now have ten teams playing in different leagues and around 60 juniors coming to our open coaching sessions on Sunday mornings.
“Our astro pitch is in constant use, if not by hockey players then by numerous football clubs who hire the pitch. It is a fantastic community asset and we will continue to encourage more local residents to get involved and use our facilities.”
Further Improvements are planned including improved changing facilities, Cricket nets and upgrading the Club House facilities

17th December Christmas Dribbleathon Raisese HUNDREDS FOR NEW PITCH
Junior players were sponsored to dribble for up to an hour around the pitch. They succesfully raised many HUNDREDS for the project.- WELL DONE !
The afternoon was well attended for an interclub tournament.
In the evening the club held the Christmas Party which included a disco and buffet.

Black tie dinner dance at Formby Hall Golf Club, with band, disco and auction – organised by the fundraising committee. This is our biggest event which we hope will be supported by all sections. It is a celebration as well as a fundraiser and is timed to take place after the end of the cricket season Tickets £30
A campaign to involve local businesses in sponsoring matches or perimeter boards around the pitch is also in progress.
