North of England success for Formby under-19s
 
A team from Formby Hockey Club won the North of England under-19s girls
tournament in Durham.
 
The girls ­ with an average age of 15 ­ carried off the top trophy after
winning on points against teams from Kirby Stephen, Kingston Upon Hull,
Blackpool, Wakefield and Tynedale.
 
The Formby side, drawn from the clubıs second and first ladiesı teams,
consisted mainly of 15 and 16 year olds with several girls including
goalkeeper Rhian Evans, aged just 13.
 
Captain Katherine Bannon, 16, said: ³It was a brilliant experience,
especially as the teams we played were all older than us. We are grateful to
our manager for the tournament, Helen Corcoran, who organised all the
logistics ­ and to the parents who took us to Durham for the weekend.²
