 Formby youngster in national tournament

A young hockey player from Formby represented the North West in a national three-day tournament.

Nick Giles, 14, played for the NW in the Under-14 Regional Tournament at Beeston, Nottinghamshire, scoring two goals and helping the team achieve fourth place among the seven competing regions.

Nick, who plays for Formby Hockey Club’s men’s 3rds and attends Formby High School, said: It was great fun, I really enjoyed it. Taking part in such a prestigious event and playing the sport that I love is something I will never forget. Hockey is a great sport and Formby Hockey Club plays a vital part in my game.

Last year Nick was in the North West under-13s side which carried off the UK trophy. He has played at Formby Hockey Club from the age of six, taking part in Sunday morning coaching sessions and playing for the Badgers and Beavers
sides before joining the men’s teams.
