Racing ahead with the Cricket Path Appeal

A sell-out Race Night at Formby Cricket Hockey and Squash Club raised more than £1,200 for the club’s fundraising appeal.

The cash boost comes just a week after news that Sport England and England Hockey have approved a £175,000 grant towards a new synthetic pitch and other facilities.

As well as big-screen racing and a hot pot supper, visitors enjoyed a Slave Auction of hockey players. The auction of pledges included:

gardening by Andy Kent; a half-day of housework by Rosie Kenyon, Katherine Bannon, Emily Hopkins, Anna Hopkins and Rochelle Jones; car wash and valeting by Tom McManus, Stevie Wright and Nick Waddilove; private hockey coaching by David Seddon, Phil Capper and Andy Halpin; butlering at a private party by David Seddon, Phil Capper, Andy Halpin and Adam Lockhart; a DIY session by Will Chew; a bathroom cleanup by Simon Fox; and a personal fitness and a tennis coaching session by Daniel Scott.

Race night organiser Andy Halpin said: “The event was packed out and everyone had a great time; the funds raised far exceeded our expectations and we’re very grateful to everyone who supported the effort.”

The club’s next fundraising event is a treasure hunt at 3pm on Sunday 30 April. Anyone interested in taking part should call Caroline Kenyon on 07843 243913.
