Around 40 players from
Formby Hockey Club took part in a sponsored spinathon
at LA Fitness.
The hockey players took to
spinning machines – many for the first time – under the instruction of personal
trainer Nikki Rowlands and raised nearly £200 towards
a new synthetic pitch and refurbished clubhouse.
LA Fitness set up the
sponsored spinathon in their reception and the cash
was donated by members arriving for their workouts.
Hockey Chair Phil Capper
said: “I think some of us were surprised how tough the
spinning was – it certainly made a change from our usual training. I’m very
grateful to LA Fitness and to Nikki our trainer for running the event – it was
a great boost to our funds.”
Work starts this August on
replacing the astro pitch at the Cricket Path ground,
with £175,000 donated by Sport England and England Hockey. The balance of
around £200,000 is being raised through a mixture of loans and fundraising.
The next fundraising event
on The Cricket Path Appeal calendar is a blind wine tasting on Friday 16 June.
