One of
Stourhead is a stunning 40-hectare garden, laid out between 1741 and 1780, offers a visual experience which is perhaps unequalled in Britain. Sheets of water reflecting splendid specimen trees and flowering shrubs make Stourhead an idyllic paradise in the finest 18th-century tradition. The hand of man is shown through exquisite buildings, such as the Pantheon and Temple of Apollo, skilfully located around the central lake and revealing themselves at the end of a series of vistas, which change as the visitor follows the path around the lake and through the glorious woodland.
Interestingly, Stourhead was the inspiration for Creighton Manor in the cult series Thunderbirds.
