Gillingham A.A Christmas Match. River Stour 11th December - (Highbridge to Stour Provost.) (27 pegs)

27 hardy anglers turned out for the Gillingham A.A Christmas match on a bitterly cold day on the River Stour between Highbridge and Stour Provost, on a hard venue where fish were tightly shoaled after recent floods. First on the day was Joe Searle from unfancied peg 14 at Highbridge, winning a Hamper of Christmas cheer! Joe fished the pole across the river with Maggots and Casters and amassed a weight of 25-5 consisting of 1 Chub, 14lb of Bream, 7lb of Roach and some bits. Second on the day was Dave Hillier from peg 13 at Highbridge who caught 8-13 of Roach on the Topper and Maggots.
3rd: Charlie Walters-8-1
4th: Adie West- 7-15-8
 

Gillingham A.A Winter Championship Round 4. - 27th November - River Stour (Catholics to Fifehead.) (30 pegs)

The river fished  quite hard with a biting Northerly wind on the water, but Neil Kerley made the most of a good draw in Big Hole at Catholics, and caught a Chub, a Bream and a lot of small Roach for 12-5 on the stick float and maggots.  Mike Trevis was second from Fifehead with 7-5 of Roach on the stick. 
3rd: Adie West- 6-6
4th: Alan Diment- 5-3-8
 

Gillingham A.A Winter Championship Round 3.  - 13th November - River Stour (Highbridge.) (30 pegs)

The river fished quite hard after a severe frost, and alot of anglers struggled.  First on the day,with his second win of the campaign, was veteran carrier bag brigade founder member, Tony West.  He drew below the weir at Highbridge on Peg 21 and caught 11-7, consisting of a 2-2 Perch and 4 Chub and a few bits on the ledger with worm and bread.  Second was Charlie Walters with 10-3 of skimmers and Bream on the pole, losing a few in the process.  
3rd: Keith Hansford: 9-1
4th: Gary Wilcox: 8-6
 

Gillingham A.A Winter Championship Round 2. - 30th October - River Stour (Highbridge to Trill.) (35 pegs)
The river fished very well with alot of fish hooked and lost!
Adie West won the second round of the Winter Championship with 3 Bream and a Chub for 14-14 losing two Bream in the process, on the feeder and worm and maggot, from Peg 15 at Highbridge. 
Barry Taylor was second with two Chub and alot of Roach for 11-2, from peg 9 at Highbridge. 
3rd: Dave Hillier- 9-10
4th: Joe Searle- 9-9

Gillingham A.A Winter Championship Round 1. - 16th October - River Stour (Highbridge to Trill.) (38 pegs)
The first match of this popular winter series saw 38 anglers tackle a low and clear upper Stour, and despite this there were alot of small fish caught. Veteran 'Carrier Bag Brigade' founder Tony West won with 9-8 of Chub and Perch from the Blackthorns swim below Trill Bridge.  2 pegs above him was Michael Hunt who had a mixed bag of Roach, Dace, Chub and Perch for 8-10.
3rd: John Collins- 7-11
 

Gillingham & District A.A. Junior Match- 1st October - Lodden Small Lake (9 pegs) v Sturminster Juniors

1st: Frank Jones       -12-3 (3 Bream and skimmers on pole and soft pellet.)
2nd: Matt Whealdon- 6-1
3rd: Joe Miller         - 1-6
Gillingham had 19-11-8 to Sturminsters 8-1-8 to win the annual trophy.
This was the final match in the series and Joe Miller was crowned champion with 298 points, second was Frank Jones with 293 points and third was Ryan Knight with 287 points. 
The Junior instruction course will happen again next year, hopefully in April, and there will be junior matches next year starting in June.   
 
Gillingham & District A.A. Junior Match - 17th September - Lodden Lakes - Big Lake(5 pegs)
Joe Miller won this junior match at Lodden Big Lake with 14-7 of fish caught on the pole from peg 36.  He had one Carp and some skimmers and Bream for a convincing win.  Second was Frank Jones with 5-5, and third was Ryan Knight with 4-13.

Gillingham & District A.A. 4th Open Match - September 11th - Turners Paddock (16 pegs)
1st: Gary O'Shea (Preston Innovations Thatchers)- 39-10 Winning his third match in a row on the venue, Gary caught an early fish on the feeder and worm before catching at 13 metres on pole and worm, from peg 21 in the narrows.
2nd: Jamie Dixon (Blackmore Vale M.G)- 31-1 (Mainly pole caught Bream from peg 24 on Caster and red maggot.)
3rd: Andy Pritchard (Preston Innovations Thatchers)-  30-13
4th: Jason Mills (Blackmore Vale M.G)- 28-15.

1st: Rob Randell         - 13-6 (Roach on the Hemp and caster from the Creamery Bend.)
2nd: Simon Hebditch  - 11-12 (90 Roach on Pinkie and Caster over groundbait from the bottom of Steart.)
3rd: Alan Rendall       - 5-9
4th: Jamie Dixon        - 5-0   

After alot of calculations match Secretary Dave Hillier announced the summer outings final table

3 Day Festival (59 Pegs) - August 27th-29th  (Lodden Lakes, Turners Paddock & Wadmill Lake)
Liam Bradell (Wiltshire Angling) became the first angler to win this popular 3 day festival for the second time, pocketing winnings of £915 in the process, and beating bookies favourite Ben Dukes (Blackmore Vale M.G) by a single point.
Liam started off with a section second at Turners Paddock with 38-00 of pole caught Bream, whilst Ben won the section with 54-10 of pole caught Bream.  On the second day at Todber Manors' Wadmill Lake Liam managed a section first with 43-8 of Carp and Bream on the pole, whilst Ben could only manage third in the section with 38-3.  On the final day with only a point separating them, they both drew in the same section, and Liam drawing what he thought was a no-hoper, fished for Carp in the margins and caught a 21lb Common, a 16lb Mirror and a 6lb Tench on Worm and Caster to win the lake with 47-8, beating Ben's 29-8 of skimmers into second place.

Summer Outing 5th Match - Avalon Fisheries - 14th August

1st: Jason Mills - 19-11 (Another excellent turnout of 31 anglers fished the penultimate  summer outing at Avalon Fisheries, West Hay and 5 Carp on waggler and drilled pellet was enough to win for Jason, who lost 5 fish on the way to victory.)
2nd: Mike Trevis- 19-4 (Waggler caught Carp.) 
3rd: Joe Miller- 16-8
4th: John Collins- 16-0

Jim Debnam Memorial Match- Lodden Lakes (28 pegs)  7th August
1st: Mike Trevis-11-2 (Unfancied Peg 18 produced the goods for popular Gillingham angler Mike who only needed 11-2 to win the trophy and £100, after catching skimmers and Bream on the pole and chopped worm and caster.)
2nd: Roger Wheldon- 10-6-8 (Novice match angler Roger drew noted 'Munter' peg 9 and after a few little fish early, made no mistake when he beat a Common Carp of 9-7, caught on quadruple red maggot, to take second place and the biggest fish trophy.)
3rd: Will Bonnie- 10-2
4th: Mark Wenn- 8-12
Jamie Dixon won the trophy for the largest number of fish with 58 fish.
 

Junior Instruction Course - August 6th - Lodden Lakes
Organiser Michael Hunt, reports that the course, held for 6 weeks at the Gillingham Youth Centre, was a great success and culminated in a match at Lodden Lakes where all the juniors caught alot of fish. 
Winner was Frank Jones with 9-13,
Second was Zac West with 7-11
Third was Alex Martin with 6-9.


Gillingham & District A.A. 3rd Open at Turners Paddock (20 pegs) 6th August
1st: Gary O'Shea (Preston Innovations Thatchers)- 70-00 (Caught a few early on the feeder and worm before bagging up later on the 11 metre pole and worm, catching mainly skimmers and the odd Tench from the waterfall, lucky peg 13!)
2nd: Ben Dukes (Blackmore Vale M.G.) - 43-03 (17 Bream caught on the feeder, red maggot and worm, then a few later, on the pole, from unrated peg 24 in the bay.)
3rd: Steve Tucker (Preston Innovations Thatchers)-  27-06

4th Summer Outing at Todber Manors Wadmill Lake.  31st July
Fishery owner John Candy used local knowledge to good effect and won the 4th Summer Outing at Todber Manors Wadmill Lake with 55-8 of Carp and 3 Bream on the 13 metre pole and soft pellet from Peg 91.  The venue fished quite well considering the amount of rain which fell on the Saturday and 'Jock' McMurchie managed second place with 36-4 of Carp on the feeder and worms from peg 74.  Simon Hebditch was third with 4 Carp and 4 Bream on the Pole and sweetcorn from peg 87, and fourth place went to Adie West with 27-2, including a Carp of 10-6, from peg 75.
