10th Annual Gillingham A.A. Festival - August 26th,27th,28th- Lodden, Turners Paddock, Park Lake

The 10th Annual Gillingham A.A. 3 day Festival was held on the Bank Holiday Weekend on the ‘Dave Hillier Lake’ at Lodden Lakes, ‘Turners Paddock’ at Stourhead and the ‘Park Lake’ at Todber Manor.

63 anglers contested the festival this year and Somerset angler Nick Ewers (Preston Innovations Thatchers) topped the field with a score of 31 points.  Nick started the weekend off with a section win at Todber Manor’s Park Lake, Peg 9, where he caught 112-00 of Carp on Pole and Pellet and Paste.  On the Sunday he caught 25-2 of Bream, Roach and Skimmers on the pole and Worm from Peg 36 at Lodden, for second in his section.  The final day saw Nick visit a hard ‘Turners Paddock’ where he drew peg 23 and caught 6 Bream and a few Skimmers on the feeder for 19-11 and another section second.  After an agonising wait to find out what had happened at Todber Manor where overnight leaders Rob Manns (Sensas Blackmore Vale) and Mark Harper (Preston Innovations Thatchers), both with two section wins and a lake win under their belt, had drawn in the same section, he learnt that Mark could only manage third in his section, meaning that their points were tied and he had won it on weight.  Nick picked up £500 and a Preston rod for winning the festival, along with £110 in section prizes, and £480 from Bill Knott, the Bookie.

The organiser, Simon Hebditch, would like to thank everyone who donated prizes: Preston Innovations, Sensas, Bill Knott Bookmakers, Wiltshire Angling, Thatchers Tackle and  Todber Manor, and to Gillingham and District Angling Association and Todber Manor Fisheries for allowing the use of their waters.
