Gillingham A.A Club Pairs.  River Stour- Deepwater to Highbridge. (30 pegs)

Despite the River being in awful conditions there were still a few fish to be caught with the majority of the field weighing in.  In - form Steve Lovell drew Billings Hole at Deepwater and mastered the conditions well by catching 2 Bream and some Roach on the Feeder and red maggot to record a weight of 10-8.  Tim Thick drew peg 11 at Highbridge and fished the lead and maggots to catch 2 eels and small Roach to weigh in 4-1 and second place.
3rd: Tony Gates- 3-8
4th: Michael Hunt- 3-6

Gillingham A.A Christmas Match.  River Stour.  Stour Provost to Tin Shed.  (30 pegs)  

Gillingham's River was in very good winter form on the Christmas match and in form Gus Manton won the match from Big Hole at Catholics with a respectable 15-9 bag of all Roach, including one a half ounce under the magic 2lb barrier!  Gus caught on the pole and caster at 11 metres to win a hamper and £50.  Second was Steve Lovell who drew peg 59 at Marnhull and caught 14-1 of mainly Roach to a 1lb, on the stick float and maggots from the aptly named Roach Swim!
3rd: Mark Leslie- 10-9
4th: Joe Searle- 9-5
5th: Alan Rendall- 9-5
6th: Gary Lynch- 7-10.


Gillingham A.A 4th Winter Championship. River Stour (Deep Water to Rectory Straight) - 37 pegs * NEW - Detailed Results Here - *
Another fine attendance found the River Stour in near perfect conditions after the rain the previous week and new member Martin Fuller made no mistake when he drew the Steps at Stour Provost. Always a good peg with a bit of water on Martin found the Roach ravenous and fished the pole at 8 metres, a metre off the reeds, feeding hemp and caster, with 2 red maggots on the hook, catching 200 Roach to 1-4 for 26-6.
Second placed Mark Brennan drew Lucky Dip at Stour Provost and caught on caster over groundbait to weigh in 13-6.
3rd: Rob Manns- 10-11
4th: Adie West- 9-6
5th: Pat Smith- 9-3
6th: Dave Sealy- 6-8.


Gillingham A.A 3rd Winter Championship. River Stour (Trill to Tin Shed) - 34 pegs.* NEW - Detailed Results Here - *
With the River Stour running gin clear and the wind making conditions very difficult for the 34 competitors the weights were a lot lower than of late with Michael Hunt only needing 7-11 to win. Michael drew peg 65 at Tin Shed and caught 2 Chub and a few Roach on the stick float and Caster and maggot. Todber Manor owner John Candy made his knowledge of the river pay drawing the Trill Bridge swim and caught 4-9 of Roach and Dace on the pole and Caster.

Gillingham A.A 1st Winter Championship. River Stour, Deepwater, Catholics and Tin Shed - 36 pegs. * NEW - Detailed Results Here - *
The first round of this very popular winter series found the River Stour low and clear, but despite this the weights were quite reasonable with all the 36 competitors weighing in over a pound. Winner on the day was Adie West who drew peg 65 at Tin Shed and caught Roach and Chublets on the pole, Caster and maggot for a weight of 10-10.
Second was Joe Searle who drew peg 60 at Catholics and caught Roach, Dace and Chublets on the stick float and maggot for a weight of 7-14.
3rd: Alan Rendall- 7-9
4th: Dan Lawrence- 5-10
5th: Jack Stamp- 5-1
6th: Dave Sealy- 5-0


Gillingham A.A 5th Summer Outing- 19th August - Viaduct Fishery (25 pegs)   
Nearly every angler caught a few Carp on Somerset's prolific Viaduct Fishery, on Cary and Lodge Lakes, and 18 year old Joe Miller won the match with 91-7 of Carp to 8lb on the shallow waggler and pellet on peg 97 on Cary.  Second was cheeky boy Rob Manns on peg 85 who caught Carp to 13lb on the shallow waggler, straight lead and in the margins for 84-5.
3rd:  Anthony Thick- 65-8
4th:  Barry Taylor-  44-0
5th:  Mark Brennan- 38-6
6th:  Mike Trevis- 33-14.


Gillingham A.A Junior Match- 18th August - Turners Paddock (8 pegs
The final match in a very competitive junior series saw 8 juniors face miserable weather at Turners Paddock on Saturday.  Winner on the day was Ryan Knight who caught 18-6 of Bream and skimmers on the pole and Caster from a peg in the middle of the dam wall.
2nd: Dan Young- 14-10
3rd: Steven Light- 2-10
This meant that the final league saw Ryan Knight and Dan Young tying on points with 391 points each but with Ryan taking the junior title on weight countback catching 47-6 over the series to Dan's 47-5!
3rd: Frank Jones- 390.


Gillingham A.A 3rd Open- 11th August - Turners Paddock (16 pegs)
Anglers practising for the forthcoming August Bank Holiday Festival found Turners Paddock in a strange mood with most fish in the narrows and the shallows.   Ian Willetts (Wiltshire Angling) drew lucky peg 13, the Waterfall, and caught 41-6 of Bream, Skimmers and Roach on Caster and Corn on the waggler, to win the match with 41-6.  Second placed Matt Parsons (Preston Innovations Thatchers) fished the pole on peg 10 and caught Bream on worm over Casters for 40-8.
3rd:  Andy Powers (Preston Innovations Thatchers)- 38-2
4th:  Andy Berntsen (Garbolino Blackmore Vale)- 24-13
5th:  Ray Webster (Gillingham A.A)- 23-10
6th:  Simon Dennis (Sturminster A.A)- 18-1


Gillingham A.A Junior Match Lodden Lakes (9 pegs)
Nine juniors fished the first Junior Match of the Series at Lodden Lakes and all nine caught a lot of fish. First on the day was Ashley Millard with a superb weight of 30Lb 6oz caught on waggler and corn. 2nd was Ryan Knight 11lb 13oz, 3rd Sam Moore 11lb 11oz.


Gillingham A.A 2nd Summer Outing - 1st July - Todber Manor Park Lake -(38pegs)
Another Cracking attendance in this series saw new Garbolino Blackmore Vale signing, youngster, Tom Thick win this match with 88Lb 1oz from peg 7. The Venue fished really well despite the weather and most anglers felt that without the wind even more fish would have been caught! Tom caught on paste and meat at 7 meters and added some more fish late down on the edge on pellet. Second was Jason Randall who drew peg 18 and caught across on worm and pellet to record a weight of 77Lb 13oz. 3rd Mark Brennan 77Lb 8oz. 4th Jason Mills 73Lb 8oz. 5th Jamie Dixon 58lb 15oz. 6th Will Bonnie 56lb 13oz


Gillingham A.A Lodden Evening Match - 27th June - Lodden Lakes (15 Pegs)
Lodden Lakes has produced and excellent first match with Thatchers captian Mark Harper winning the 3 hour match with 41lb 3oz made up of an 11lb Carp and 30lb skimmerson the pole and expanda pellet on peg 36. 2nd Jamie Dixon (Grabolino Blackmore Vale) 28Lb 3oz, 3rd Rob Manns (Garbolino Blacmkore Vale) 27Lb 6oz


Gillingham A.A Junior Instruction Course - 23rd June - Todber Manor - (14 Pegs)
The event won by Sean Monks, was organised by Mike Hunt, Dave Sealy and Jason Mills so the 14 youngsters who took part on the course could demonstrate their new skills. Sean Weighed-in a respectable 21lb 4oz bag of Skimmers and Tench. Sam Moore was second with 13lb 14oz, Josh Ravenhill was a very close 3rd with 13lb 6oz and Sam Gray secured fourth with 6Lb 10oz. All the youngsters caught fish and all received several prizes. Mike would like to thank Todber Manor, Sensas, M5 Angling, the environment agency and all the club members who donated prizes.

Gillingham A.A 1st Summer Outing - 17th June - River Huntspill
The 1st Gillingham A.A Summer Outing attracted a healthy turnout of 37 anglers at the River Huntspill at Gold Corner on Sunday the X of X. Mark Brennan secured a convinsing victory catching Bream and Skimmers on feeder-fished worm, caster and red maggot for a winning weight of 63Lb 13oz. Mike Trevis was second with his 22lb 12oz, Joe Searle was 3rd with 15lb 1oz and Dick Discombe was 4th with 15lb.


Joint Fisheries Annual Charity Challenge- Lodden Lakes (40 pegs)
 
This match raised £260 for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. 
First on the day was Gillingham AA's Michael Hunt who drew peg 14 on the 'Dave Hillier' Lake and caught some Roach and Tench short on the short pole and Caster.  Then added some bigger Tench to 5-10 on worm and a bonus 14-11 Grass Carp for a total weight of 33-12, and winning £140 and a trophy.
Second was Steve Lovell (Gillingham AA) who weighed in 28-11 consisting of 8 Tench on sweetcorn and Caster and was left rueing the loss of an estimated 7lb Tench that slipped the hook and cost him the match! 
3rd: Ben Dukes (Garbolino Blackmore Vale)- 16-15
4th: Simon Hebditch (Garbolino Blackmore Vale)- 15-8
5th: Mike Trevis (Gillingham A.A)- 12-4

Gillingham A.A club match - 22nd April - Lodden Lakes

fished by 18 anglers.
1st: Jason Mills- 37-3 (Consisting of 2 Carp and 6 Bream from peg 15 on the feeder and Pole on Worm, Pellet and Casters.)
2nd: Ben Dukes- 35-1 (6 Tench and 6 skimmers from peg 25 on the pole fishing worm over hemp and Casters)
3rd: Mark Leslie- 17-14
4th: Charlie Barnes- 15-3
5th: Will Bonnie- 12-10
6th: Rich Chave- 10-6
 

Gillingham AA 6th Winter Championship.  -  4th March - River Stour (Highbridge, Rectory and Deep Water)

Dave Sealy won the last winter Championship and in the process was crowned winter championship in a very tight finish to the league.  Match Secretary Dave was left sweating on Saturday with a lot of rain forecast but managed to get the last match on, on a rising river!  Dave drew Billings Hole in the Deep Water at Highbridge and caught some Roach and a 4-8 Bream on pieces of Lobworm on the feeder, weighing in 6-2.
Second on the day was Gary Lynch who caught a 2lb Perch and some Roach from peg 8 at Highbridge for 4-13.
3rd: Mike Trevis- 4-8-8
4th: Charlie Walters- 4-8
5th: Joe Searle- 4-1

This meant that the final league was a very tight affair with 4 points separating the Top 5!
1st: Dave Sealy- 473
2nd: Gary Lynch- 472 (Better Weight)

John Candy won the individual knockout.
Pat Smith was veterans champion with 449.
Sue Collins was Ladies Champion with 427.
 

The inaugural 'Upper Stour Dave Hillier Memorial Match' - 4th February - River Stour at Highbridge, Trill Bridge & Catholics

fished by 45 anglers on the . 
After 2 nights of frost and a full moon the fish didn't respond very well in the bright conditions! 
1st on the day was Gary Lynch (Gillinghm A.A.) who drew the end peg in the paddock at Highbridge and caught 6-8 on the waggler and worm including two Chub and some Roach. 
2nd and only 2 ounces behind the winner was Vic Abbott (Premier Angling) who drew Mucky Gate at Catholics and caught 6-6 of Chublets and Roach on the stick float and maggots and casters.
3rd: Will Bonnie (Sensas Blackmore Vale)- 5-12
4th: Joe Searle (Gillingham A.A)- 5-9
5th: Pat Smith (Gillingham A.A)- 5-2

fished by 30 anglers but first on the day was match Secretary Dave Sealy with 14-13.He drew peg 75 at Tin Shed and caught 2 Chub, a Bream and some bits on the stick float and Caster before adding another 2 Chub later on, on the liquidised bread feeder.  Second was Joe Searle who had 8-8 from peg 73 at Tin Shed which consisted of 5 small Chub and some Roach, on the stick float and maggots.  Third was Jack Stamp with 8-7 from Trill bridge.  
 

Gillingham A.A 4th Winter Championship - 7th January 2007- River Stour- Highbridge to Rectory Straight (32 Pegs)


With the River up and coloured for the fourth match in this popular series, fishing was a challenging prospect for the 32 competitors. 

1st: Gary Lynch- 7-13 from peg 11 at Highbridge consisting of a Bream, a perch and some skimmers and Roach on the stickfloat and maggots from a slack under his feet.

2nd: John Candy- 4-6 from the top of Rectory straight at Stour Provost.  John caught 4 eels and 5 Roach on the maggot feeder.

3rd: Jack Stamp- 4-4

4th: Jason Mills- 4-3.

The next one is on 21st January.

The' Dave Hillier Memorial Upper Stour Championship' is on 4th February with tickets costing £15 all in.  The draw is at the Ship at West Stour at 8 O'clock.  Book in with Dave Sealy if you want to have a go on (01747) 823159.
