The proposed new dwelling at Coombe Farm is a contemporary house in a rural setting looking out over extensive views to the East. The building is finished with local stone and timber with the lower floor buried into the hillside and open-plan living accommodation above with large windows to make the most of the vistas from this site.
Carefully landscaped grounds by Carly Tinkler CMLI include an orchard, reinstatement of historic hedgerow and an area of native species woodland connected by a mown path. The setting on the landscape along with the enhancement provided by this design and key to its success.
The principles of PassivHaus will be applied to this project and exceptional standards of the energy efficient will be achieved, in spite of not being ideally located to benefit from solar gains.
This dwelling, due to its location in the open countryside, is required to be of exceptional design quality to comply with the spirit of National Planning Policy Framework, paragraph 55. The quality if the design was recognized by CABE and the project was granted planning permission in 2016.
