Autumn 2011

The Autumn prune!
Lavender needs to be trimmed in the autumn to create lots of new growth in the spring.
Back breaking work, but it has to be done

March 2009

We have been busy for Jan/Feb , which is good with all the negative news about at the moment. As we are getting near to Easter we are very busy getting all the Guest Soaps ready for our many customers who run B & B's, holiday cottages and hotels. The shop is full of beautiful gifts for Mothers Day, so if you are looking for something different why not contact us.

I have been spending most weekends potting on all our little Lavender seedlings, they are all growing well and hopefully will be ready for planting in the Spring. So we may have a small amount of Lavender essential oil this year, but definitely next year.

We have collected our Jersey Giant rooster who is so beautiful and two delightful little bantams 'Bidi' and 'Babs', these have been followed by our 'sad ladies' (rescued hens) who are fast becoming our 'naughty ladies'. They are all so lovely and entertaining and very very time wasting as you can sit a watch them for ages.

Looking forward to Easter and a little sunshine, it is on its way as all the daffodils are out, and all their yellow heads are so cheerful and bright, spring must be just round the corner!

The New Year.

We have had a very busy Christmas and even with all the news of a recession we are very hopeful for the future. So hoping we see you in Penzance in 2009. You will have no trouble finding the new shop as it is next door to the old one.

The New Year holds great excitement for us. We are still trying to organise the ploughing on one of our fields by local Shire-horses, but we will plough it even if we have to resort to more modern methods. At the last tally we had 287 lavender plants growing and many more trays of seedlings to pot on.

Hopefully by spring we will have enough to cover our field with lavender plants. The following year we will cut, steam and have lots of our own beautiful lavender essential oil.

The other very exciting news is hopefully at the end of January’09 we will have 4 ‘sad ladies’ (rescued ‘battery hens’) who will need lots of love and care. To join them we are also getting a Jersey Giant rooster and 2 ‘ladies’ to keep him company, but that’s not until mid Feb. I just can’t wait!!!!

On a personnel note, this was a very important year as at the end of Nov’08 I had my 60th birthday, how did that happen? I celebrated with all my family and will be having a bigger celebration in the spring when the weather is hopefully sunny and we can enjoy a picnic on the land.

Hope you all had a good Christmas and a very liquid New Year.
Many thanks for your support throughout 2008.

We have both good and bad news.

The bad new is we have lost Sandy, this is due to her mother being very poorly.

Sandy started with me shortly after I started the jb Soap Company and will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best for the future and hope her mother has a full recovery.

The good news is Lesley has joined us in a permanent position.

Lesley originally comes from Derby, but has lived in Penzance for the last 12yrs. She has a Diploma in fashion and textiles and worked as a designer before coming to Cornwall. A craft addict is a good way to descript Lesley as when she is not working in the shop she loves to spend her time painting, sewing, knitting and making cards. I would say Lesley is the best and fastest wrapper we have ever had.

The shop is moving!

Our lease is now up for renewal and we have decided to move to the shop next door, new shop, new beginnings. So if you are in Penzance please come and see the new premises.

Finally last year I had my second grandchild, a boy named Henry and last week Henry started to walk, not yet a year old! As I only had daughters this is a whole new experience, and I am sure I will enjoy every moment.

December 2007

Christmas at Causwayhead

It was an exciting run up to Christmas at Causwayhead. On December 1st the street was alive with street entertainment, shoppers enjoyed the seasonal food stalls, the carousel ride as well as Santa's Grotto. BBC Radio Cornwall's David White switched on the lights, as night fell.

Family entertainment continued during the 'late night shopping' Thursdays, throughout December. Part of the money taken at Santa's Grotto went to a local charity Penzance Natural Health Centre Childrens’ Bursary Fund.

Christmas decorations in the shop windows were provided by local primary school children as part of a competition entitled 'The Spirit of Christmas'. The standard of the displays was very high and the three judges, which included Penzance Mayor Cllr Frank Granger, made there decision based on the individual contribution of each child and its decorative impact. Connor Downs School's work was displayed at the Soap Shop and we are pleased to announce that they came 3rd! Prizes were awarded on Thursday evening, December 13th.
