Hart
District
Council has 35 elected councillors. All of them, except Cllr. Hugo
Eastwood
(Eversley Ward), are
accessible
by e-mail. At
some point all these Councillors will get to vote
on both the adoption of the Draft Planning Brief and Taylor Woodrow's
outline planning
application. It is therefore important that we make them fully aware of
the
key issues regarding the proposed development at the QEB.
We have put together an e-mail address book to make it easy to send an
e-mail to all of the councillors en-mass. The following description
explains
how to upload and use the list with Outlook Express, which is probably
the
most common mail tool. For other mail clients please see comments marked° below.
To import address list into Outlook Express
Firstly you need to upload
this
file on to your own system, click this link with
the
right hand mouse button and select the Save
Target As ..... option. Make a mental note of where you
saved this
file (HDC.csv) to.
Now switch to Outlook Express and from within the main window
select this
sequence of pull down menus;
File --->
Import
---> Other Address Book
You will be offered a
selection
of file types - select;
Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Click Import
then
use the browser to select the file which you have just uploaded.
Now click through the final sequence of buttons to finish
off.
Your Outlook Express address book now contains the contact details for
34
Hart District councillors. Each councillor's name is prefixed with the
abbreviated
title cllr. This is so that the entries will group
together
in your address book to facilitate easy selection.
To send the councillors an 'en-mass' e-mail
When creating a mail message
click upon the little address book icon next to the To:
field. You can now
block select all the councillor's
names. Click on the first name, that of Cllr. Alan Hammersley to
highlight
it. Move the mouse to the last councillor's name, Cllr. Viv Street,
hold
down the <Shift> key and click on it. This should
highlight
all the councillor's names in between. You can select them all for the
e-mail
by clicking on the To: button followed by OK.
At the end of the campaign
you
can just as easily mass delete them in a similar way.
°If you use a mail client such as Netscape,
Mozilla
or Evolution then you require this address
list
format instead. The
file
format is known as Common Separated Values (HDC_mozilla.csv). The install process is just
as simple
as with Outlook Express, just different, however if you're using one of
these
mail clients you are probably fairly familiar with how to operate it.
Apple
Mac's are a complete mystery to me, if neither of these formats work
please
drop me a line and I will try and identify a suitable format for you.
