Meet The Team

We were pleased to be joined by Gawain Davies who came to work for us in January of this year and helped us through the move. For local customers Gawain needs no introduction but for those who don’t know him he’s an extremely talented guitarist and local tutor. Gawain is one of our resident guitar specialists and has been taking our ‘Guitar Basics’ workshops for the past few months. Gawain also enjoys playing the mandolin and should be seen gigging locally in the very near future.

We are now joined by Tony Purdue on Saturdays. Tony is our Bass specialist and has been a member of the demo group for Indie Guitars. He has a long history of playing in bands and manages to get gigs in French Chateaux and mingle with the rich and famous at celebrity parties. Nice work if you can get it!

This month Ben Rouse will be completing our team. Ben is locally renowned for his guitar skills in the rock group ‘Purple Monkey’ and can often be seen at weekend’s throwing himself off pub bars and picking strings with his teeth. However he has many hidden talents (as Teapot Junkie fans will be aware) and will be our resident expert on Brass and Woodwind. Ben started his musical career at school on the drums but the list of instruments that Ben can play includes trumpet, saxophone, flute and clarinet. The violin, mandolin and banjo are also in his repertoire as is the piano. We look forward to Ben joining us and developing our classical section.

In April Chris joined us and took on the onerous task of keeping us organised in the office. She’s doing a fantastic job and all we can say is sorry for our lack of filing skills and please don’t give up on us!

Denise and Matt are responsible for the shop. Denise deals with more business related issues but is gradually progressing with the guitar. Having lived with a musician for so long she was also the one who insisted that having a sofa in the shop was a must for parents and partners being forced to stand in a music shop for hours on end.

Matt’s technical knowledge and servicing skills are used to the full. He is graded on the flute and is an expert on amps, sound equipment and guitars. Matt’s also qualified to do PAT testing and ensures all of our second hand electrical items are safe before they are sold.

Recognition should also be given to Matt’s dad Jim, who provides sales support on a regular basis, usually covering holidays and is a specialist on Banjo’s. Denise’s dad Alf, can be seen in the shop on a regular basis providing support with deliveries and maintenance and has a history playing with brass bands (tuba). Jacqui, Denise’s mum deserves a medal for all of the accounts support she provides, and could once have been seen pumping her accordion! Finally, Molly, our cocker spaniel. What can we say? It wouldn’t be the same without her.

We look forward to seeing you in the shop. Just let us know if we can help. We’re very proud of our team and are committed to having a commission free environment. Our members of staff are here to help you find the right instrument for you, not to reach sales targets.
