Junior Welsh League by Kath Banks The second fixture for Division Four in the Junior Team Championship of Wales was played at Denbigh Leisure Centre on Saturday November 7th. Playing for Denbigh were Chloe Edwards, Gabbi Wan and Faye Evans, making her debut for Denbigh Juniors and playing in her first ever Welsh League match.
First match of the day was against North Gwent B. Though there were some close games, North Gwent proved too strong for the Denbigh team, who lost 2-5 - Gabbi and Faye both defeated Liam Sutton. The second match, against Cardiff Cathays, was also a tough one, and though Chloe opened well with a decisive 6,9,6 victory over C. Olaoye, and Gabbi finished the match with an equally impressive 2,5,4 win against K. Emadi, Denbigh again lost 2-5.
Newport were unable to field a team for this fixture, so asked Denbigh if they could provide three players, in order to avoid the no-show fine of £100. At a week’s notice, Denbigh was only able to muster two, but Cail Evans and Connor Brookes, from the Denbigh 5x60 club, stepped enthusiastically into the breach, and though they lost both matches 0-7, are now determined to improve sufficiently to play for Denbigh next season! Next fixture is in Cardiff on January 9th.

Senior coaching with Alan Griffiths Alan Griffiths, who was until recently National Coach for Wales, is now working two days each week with juniors in Denbigh. A number of senior League players have also expressed an interest in coaching sessions with Alan; he is happy to do this if enough people are interested, so we are looking at the possibility of setting up a session at a weekend, probably on a Saturday. Ideally, the session should include eight players, and we would need to cover the cost of hall hire and Alan’s fee. This would mean a cost per player of £25 - £30. Pleaser register your interest with Kath (kath-b@btconnect.com) and I will come back to you as soon as I have more information.
