New features on the web site
The latest manual from Keda Publications, published in January 2003, is Stareway To Spelling. This is a workbook that will allow any literate person to teach anyone aged 7 or over how to read and spell the 300 Most Used Words - three-quarters of all we read and write.

This comprehensive aid to spelling high frequency words was written by Keda Cowling with her youngest son Kelsey during years of classroom research and refinement. It supports and extends the methods developed by Keda over 35 years providing another proven tool to teach literacy alongside her other manuals - Toe By Toe and Stride Ahead.

The detailed procedures contained within the workbook ensure that students can recall the spelling of high frequency words, giving them the confidence and strategies to tackle writing on any subject. Though detailed, the instructions are presented in a way that allows anyone who can read to be a tutor, be they qualified teachers, classroom assistants, parents or peers.

Of course, Keda continues to develop new ways to promote her goal of literacy for all. Several projects are currently being worked on, or planned. These include:-

  • Adapting Keda's methods for specific teaching of Downs syndrome sufferers.
  • Adapting Keda's methods for specific teaching of English for Speakers of Other Languages.
  • Developing formal reward schemes to encourage progress based on Keda's famous "Gillypop"TM characters and certificates
