Welcome to our charter programme for 2012
Each season we operate around 100 charters and we are always mindful that the trip should be geared to the needs of the group on board.
Although we have 9 suggested charters we are always happy to talk about your requirements and adapt ours, if possible. Some possibilities are to moor by the towpath, start your charter somewhere other then Bradford on Avon or stop off for a meal at a nearby pub.
Our booking manager is always happy to assist you in planning your charter with you.
If you are going ahead with a charter, please book, giving plenty of notice, especially if you have a particular date in mind for an important celebration. We usually start booking charters in the October of the preceding year. However, we are often able to book a charter at short notice.
Kindly note that charters are not normally available when our public trips are taking place. This would be between 1.30 and 5.30pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. We also ask that your charter is timed to arrive back at Bradford on Avon by 10.00pm.
Suggested Charter Trips 2012
All the suggested trips below start from the top side of the lock, just across the towpath from Wharf Cottage Café (BA15 1LE).

On Your Charter
Once you have decided on where you are going on your charter you will probably wish to know what happens during your relaxing trip along the canal.
One of your first thoughts may well be what to eat during the charter.
We have a policy that you may bring your own food on board or choose a caterer of your own choice. We are happy to suggest some caterers, near the boat, who often provide for our charter groups. They also bring the food to the boat just before we set off. In other instances, eg cream teas, we can provide these at extra cost, but it is for you to decide your catering arrangements.
We have a well stocked bar /galley on board and we request that all drinks consumed on board are purchased from us.
In certain circumstances, you may particularly wish to bring your own wine on board. Please discuss this with our booking manager; normally a corkage charge of £2.00 per 75cl will be applied.
If you wish to have music whilst on board, you are very welcome to bring your own CDs to play during the trip.
In common with all our trips, smoking on all parts of the MV Barbara McLellan, including the foredeck, is not permitted for reasons of the health and safety of passengers and crew .
There is a lift for passengers who would find it difficult to descend the steps into the boat.
Please discuss with our booking manager the details of your charter including costs and the date / time. We start boarding some twenty minutes before set off time. You will be sent a booking form to complete and return. A deposit of 50% is also payable to confirm the charter. The final payment is due 28 days before the charter takes place. Card payments are welcomed.
Other Types of Charter
Educational - An increasing number of schools and youth organisations are chartering the MV Barbara McLellan. We welcome enquiries from educational establishments and youth groups who look to use the boat as part of a learning situation. We offer special rates for this category of charter.
Charitable - The boat is run under the auspices of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, which operates boats and canal attractions along the whole length of the canal. By virtue of the external Funding that was used to purchase this boat, we offer complimentary 2-hour charters, or equivalent, to charities that assist the disadvantaged. Please telephone our booking manager about this aspect of our work.
