Ops Director - West

To manage the K&A Trust trading subsidiary's day to day trading operations at the western end of the Canal

The Job

Reporting to the Managing Director of the Trust's trading subsidiary.
To be the Board Member responsible for directing/managing trading operations at the western end of the Kennet and Avon Canal. To work with other members of the trading subsidiary Board in setting operational policy.
To be responsible for business development within the territory. To own and manage the operating budget for the territory. To manage a small number of paid staff and oversee the management and direction of a large number of volunteers operating boats and shops.

The Person

A leader comfortable with working with a wide range of individuals at all levels in an organisation. Previous experience of working with volunteers desirable. Must have held a senior management position in a retailing/leisure environment and have experience of operating and managing shops and/or other trading outlets. Must have business development experience. Graduate or relevant professional qualification desirable and must have previously held P & L responsibility. Must be computer and internet literate - willing to travel as required (reasonable travelling expenses will be paid).

Ops Director - Centre

Ops Director - East

Maintenance Director

To manage the maintenance of a small fleet of public trip boats belonging to the K & A Trust operated by its trading Subsidiary and to manage the Trust's operational buildings.

The Job

Reporting to the Managing Director of the Trust's trading subsidiary. To be the Board Member responsible for directing/managing boat and building maintenance. To work on an agency basis to provide the same to the trading subsidiary's parent charity as required. To work with other members of the trading subsidiary board and the Trust's H & S Manager in setting operational policy. To own and manage the various maintenance budgets for both the Trust and its trading subsidiary. To oversee the management of local boat and building maintenance teams to ensure boats and buildings are in good working order.

The Person

Previous experience of working with volunteers desirable. Must have either direct experience of managing trip boats or have held a senior management position in either a P & ME environment or in a property services environment. Graduate or relevant professional qualification desirable. Must be computer and internet literate - willing to travel as required (travelling expenses will be paid).

Insurance Manager

To manage the K & A Trust's insurance portfolio and carry out supporting activities related to ensuring risk is properly managed and insured.

The Job

Reporting to the Company Secretary of the Trust and to Trust Council as required. To be the Trust's tier 2 management team member responsible for ensuring that the Trust and its trading subsidiary are properly insured at all times. To work with other members of the management team and the trading subsidiary to ensure that insurance risks are correctly identified and managed. To handle the assessment of current policies and the placement of our Insurance business at optimum cost. To manage the handling and settlement of claims and to liaise with our lawyers as and when necessary. You must be in a position to act impartially in your work for the Trust.

The Person

Must come from a commercial insurance background and have a proven track record in assessing risk for insurance purposes. A Senior level individual comfortable with working with a wide range of individuals at all levels in an organisation. Previous experience of working with volunteers desirable. Must have held a management position in an insurance company/broker and have experiences in dealing with companies in a retailing/leisure environment. Relevant professional qualification required. Must be computer and internet literate - willing to travel as required (reasonable travelling expenses will be paid).

Donations Manager

To develop and manage the K & A Trust's policy and activity as it seeks to maximise the opportunity to obtain tax benefits from donors' charitable giving activities.

The Job

Reporting to the Director of Heritage and Fundraising with dotted line responsibility to the Trust's Treasurer as required. To be the Trust's tier 2 management team member responsible for ensuring that the Trust gets the maximum revenue from exploiting tax efficient ways in which donors can give money to the Trust. This is a brand new role and as such, the initial thrust will be about educating and informing Trustees and those in the management teams in the Charity as a whole, about the opportunities involved and recommending a strategy and policy to underpin the tax efficient donor scheme the Trust wishes to put in place. You will be responsible for co-ordinating and managing such things as the Trust's gift-aid claims process to ensure that the Trust receives a regular income.

The Person

Previous experience of working in the 'Third sector' is highly desirable. Must have a track record for creating innovative solutions to business problems. You must know the law relating to charitable giving or be prepared to spend time becoming familiar with it in order to be effective. You must be at ease dealing with senior management, lawyers and accountants and must be able to deal with the relevant departments at HMRC.
