The Barbara Mclellan Trip Boat

M. V. Barbara McLellan

M.V. Barbara McLellan is a broad beam narrowboat built in 1982 and was specifically designed for leisure cruising. She is 65 feet long with a beam of 10.5 feet. She weighs 25 tons and has a 4.2 litre marinised diesel tractor engine. The main cabin is spacious, with seating at tables for 40 passengers and a maximum seating capacity of 51. The boat has a licensed bar, a fully equipped galley and a small dance floor with sliding roof which can be opened in fine weather. The boat has a lift for wheelchair access and modern toilet facilities.

We run the following trips from the Wharf Cottage, Bradford on Avon:

  • Public Trips at Weekends, Public Holidays and Wednesday afternoons.
  • Special Trips such as Cream Teas, Bath Trip, Autumn Tints, Santa Trips, etc can be booked as advertised on the dates throughout the year.
  • Charter Trips fully crewed trips can be booked for 1 – 8 hours.

M.V. Barbara McLellan is named after the late Mrs Barbara McLellan. In 1999 the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust needed to replace the West Wilts Branch narowboat Ladywood and approached the The McLellan Trust for financial assistance. This Trust is a small Charitable Trust set up from the estate of the late Mrs Barbara McLellan, providing donations to help in broad terms, the elderly, the disabled, and the disadvantaged, as well as protecting wild birds. Fortunately for us, in 1999 the Trustees decided that they should donate to capital projects rather than just distributing income and they graciously decided to fund the purchase of Aquarius, then plying on the River Cam, in Cambridge. In appreciation of this generosity and in memorial of the benefactor, the boat was renamed Barbara McLellan. We, therefore, particularly welcome enquiries for any charters from groups organising recreational trips for members of disadvantaged groups
