'Rose of Hungerford'

Rose of Hungerford

Whether you join a public trip aboard the 'Rose of Hungerford', or charter the boat for a private party, a leisurely cruise provides a unique way to enjoy the pleasures of the Kennet & Avon canal and the surrounding countryside and wildlife along the navigation.

The 55 -ft long 'Rose of Hungerford' was purpose-built for the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust along the lines of a traditional canal barge. Beautifully painted and decorated with roses and castles in the style of former working boats, the 'Rose of Hungerford' is based at the old and picturesque Canal Wharf.

The boat is licensed to carry up to 50 passengers and for smaller, private parties, seating can be arranged as required. from wedding receptions to business meetings and social outings of all kinds the 'Rose of Hungerford' makes an ideal, unusual venue for your event. Wheelchair lift and central heating fitted.

The 'Rose of Hungerford' conforms to Government safety regulations and carries a full passenger certificate. All crew are fully trained and captains hold a Class 3 Boatman's Licence. The boat is crewed and maintained by volunteer members of the Trust and all proceeds go towards maintaining and improving the canal.

There is a well stocked bar on board, with light refreshments and freshly made tea and coffee. Postcards and souvenirs are for sale and there is a free information sheet for passengers. The boat is covered for all-weather cruising and there is a toilet on board.

2 - 2½ hour return trips past Wire Lock operate at weekends and Bank Holidays. No booking is required, but you are advised to arrive ½ hour before departure time at peak season in order to avoid disappointment. Additional evening and weekday trips are also run during the summer months and special evening theme trips are run regularly. In the weekends before Christmas we run our popular "Santa Cruises", where the children meet Santa Claus for a present and adults receive a mince pie and a glass of sherry.
