Austria

1994

In the ten years since we have been travelling the world, we have always been lucky with the weather ... until we arrived in Austria. In two weeks we managed to get ten days of rain, and on one of the four gloriously hot days we managed to find ourselves in Salzburg on a public holiday when none of the shops were open.

Austria is a beautiful country, especially the Tyrol where we stayed on our two centre holiday, the first week bring in St. Johann and the second week at altitude in Kaprun.

Places worth a visit are Kitzbuhel, home of the Hannenkahm, Salzburg, home of the "Sound of Music", Innsbruck and the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 2,430 metres, and Hitler's Eagles Nest at Berchtesgaden
