Having left Limassol on the previous evening, aboard SS Salamis Glory, we awoke in the Israeli port of Haifa.
After breakfast on board, we were taken by coach to Bethlehem where we went into the church which had been built where the infamous stable, where Jesus was born used to be. Neither Chris nor I are particularly religious but there was a strange feeling inside the Church of the Nativity ... which believe it or not was on "Manger Street"!
After lunch of curried yak or goat at the Bethlehem Hotel, we travelled to Jerusalem for a walking tour of the city which included the Wailing Wall and several Bazaars.
We arrived back at the SS Salamis Glory via a diamond factory just outside Haifa where we were told that Israel own virtually exclusive rights to diamonds mined throughout the world.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Bethlehem and Jerusalem, but it is quite disconcerting when tanks or armoured personnel carriers are on most street corners and most people are carrying assault rifles.
