A Toast to "Olivia Grace"

On 4th May 2003, I became the very proud God-Father to "Olivia Grace", the youngest daughter of our friends Martin and Juliet. The following words were the ones I chose to propose a toast to Olivia at the reception. They go someway to expressing my feelings ...

"I read recently that the United Nations Declaration to Children says that 'Mankind owes to its children the best it has to give'

To this end, Olivia is off to a pretty good start, as I for one can't imagine finding better parents than Martin or Juliet, a better big-brother than Jacob and looking around today, better family and friends to help and support Olivia to be the very best she can at whatever she chooses to do in life.

Chris and I were on holiday last year and I came across the following words which stuck with me, they seem very apt today ...

'A hundred years from now, it won't matter how much money I have got, the house I live in or the type of car I drive ... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.'

I am very proud to be asked to be important in Olivia's life and I ask you now to raise your glasses to my God-Daughter, Olivia Grace"
