Computer Classes for Spring 2012

Courses take place in the Community Centre's Computer Education Room. This has 12 computers using Windows XP and the most commonly used Microsoft programmes.
Classes will run with a minimum of 10 students. Credit/Debit card telephone bookings accepted on 01590 672337 subject to a 50p booking fee. Please download an enrolment form and return with your payment. Refunds will not be made once course has commenced unless cancelled by the L.C.A. Courses are not suitable for those operating the MAC programmes.

Getting Started Tutor: Dave Lovett
Thursdays 10.30 am - 12.30 pm commencing Thursday 1 March, 2012 for 5 weeks
LCA members: £38.00. Non Members: £40.00.

This is a beginners' level course designed to enable the learner to start with the basics of home computing and build understanding and confidence in working with computers.

By the end of the course, you should be able to create simple letters and save and print your work. Having learnt these basic skills you should be comfortable with your computer and have the necessary confidence to extend your skills either through application at home or through more specialised courses being offered at the Community Centre.

Thursdays 1.00 to 3.00 commencing Thursday 5 January, 2012 for 5 weeks
LCA members: £38. Non-members: £40.
This is an informal course designed for beginners who have some knowledge of computers. The course will show you how to use and personalise Windows and how to install and remove programmes. By the end of the course you should be able to install programmes, update software, back up data, customise elements of the Windows environment, install and remove USB devices, understand some useful facilities of the internet, understand virus protection. This course is very hands on and the participants will use the computers right from the start. The amount the course will cover will depend on the participants and the pace that they are comfortable with.

Internet Exploring for Beginners Tutor: Dave Lovett

Thursdays 10.30-12.30pm. Commencing Thursday 19 January, 2012 for 5 weeks.
LCA members: £38. Non-members: £40.
This course is designed for people who want to use the internet and email but may or may not know how to get started. Subjects covered:

  • What is the internet and how to get connected
  • Looking at different browsers
  • Setting up email accounts and using email
  • Useful and exciting places on the internet
  • How to keep safe whilst on the internet

    Basic Word Processing Tutor: Dave Lovett

    Mondays 12.30 to 2.30pm. Commencing Monday 16 January, 2012 for 5 weeks
    LCA members: £38. Non-members: £40
    This course is designed for people who want to use word processing to produce letters, brochures, books etc. It will be assumed that attendees have no previous experience of word processing, but do know how to use Windows. For people who want to learn how to use Windows, please look at the "Computers for Beginners" and "Follow on Computers" courses. Subjects covered:

  • Page and Document set up
  • Creating and using stypes - fonts, spacing, tabs and indents
  • Setting up and using templates
  • Changing the layout of documents
  • How to incorporate images and wrap text around them.
