Match report from 26 / 09 /05

1st Team Report: WON : Wednesfield 86 Leicester 94

With both teams chasing second place in the British Premier League table the outcome of this fixture was important to both sides.  As the match unfolded the Monarchs proved lively opponents with Craig Marchant, Lukasz Nowacki and David Hemsley all winning vital heats to keep the pressure on the home side. In the end it was Leicester’s all-round team strength that made the difference.

The meeting brought to a close an incredible career in top class racing for David  Hemsley who bowed out of cycle speedway with eighteen points. Hemsley plans to retire this season after 23 years at the top and leaves behind him a legacy as the most decorated rider in the history of the sport.

The former five times British champion, triple World champion and European champion marks his retirement with a farewell meeting on 1 October. Leicester face Poole, Wednesfield and Norwich at Slater Street from 7.00pm.

Leicester scorers: Craig Marchant 18+1, David Hemsley 18, Mark Whitehead 9, Lukasz Nowacki 19, Norman Venson 9+1, Daniel Pike 11+2, Nicky Whitehead 9 and Steph Whitehead 1.
