About
Us
The Leicester Islamic Academy (LIA) is a faith school providing a happy, caring, Islamic environment based on the Qur'an and Sunnah (Tradition) of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). LIA is one of the oldest Independent Muslim schools in Britain. It was established in 1981 as an independent Muslim school and started with just seven girls of secondary age. Operating from the first floor of the Jame Mosque – one of the main Mosques of Leicester, it quickly gained support form the Local Community. The school rapidly grew in popularity and soon needed bigger premises. In 1991 a group of local business people got together and, again with the support of Leicester's Muslim community, purchased the current premises at 320 London Road.
Currently the LIA provides education for over 400 pupils aged of 3 to 11 years old. The governors, staff, parents and pupils have all strived over the years to improve the standards of education. The result of this sheer hard work can be seen in the academic 'achievements' over the past 7 years.
LIA used to be a Primary and Secondary school. The Secondary students dramatically improved over the years and became one of the successful running secondary schools in the UK.
In Auguest 2007 LIA secondary were separated from Primary. Where they moved to a different location called Madani Hight School who now works close partnership with LIA, to provide opportunities for parents to continue their education at a Secondary Islamic School.
However the number of pupils joining the LIA has increased dramatically over the past seven years and continues to do so. The school is heavily oversubscribed with other 800 pupils waiting for a place. The school is under tremendous pressure from parents whose children are on our waiting list. There are at least dozen or so daily enquiries and, at times, strong requeststo accept their children. Some parents are so keen to have their children at the LIA that they insist registering them soon after birth!
LIA looks forward to the challenge of developing the proposal resulting, in a school. With an Islamic ethos-delivering standard of excellence and encouraging atmosphere of mutual respect and tolernace
