So...
19th April 2003 8pm Posted by: Ross You
will all have noticed that I haven't updated the site since
September 2002. Unfortunately being a layabout student has
cost me dear, and I haven't been up to my roaving reporter
standards. Things aren't going to get any better either, as
my life is currently being ruled by textbooks, and I'm off
to study in Canada for a year come August. So, it is with
a heavy heart that I admit this site is effectively closed.
I'll leave everything up in case you ever need a lyric or
fancy memorising all the singles Catatonia ever released.
And
who knows, I might suddenly find loads of time in the future
and get things back on track then!
Thanks
for all your support while the site was open, hope to be back
soon!
Ross.
GREATEST
HITS OUT NOW!
2nd September 2002 4pm Posted by: Ross The
Catatonia Greatest Hits album is out today, all very exciting
I'm sure you'll agree. Will it make the Top Ten, or even Top
Five? Stay tuned to Catatonianet to find out!
CATATONIA
- THE GREATEST HITS
31st July 2002 4pm Posted by: Ross News
today that Catatonia are to release a Greatest Hits album,
despite splitting up last year. The album, due for release
on September 2nd, will feature:
Mulder
And Scully
The Ballad Of Tom Jones featuring Space
Strange Glue
Road Rage
Stone By Stone
Londinium
Game On
Dead From The Waist Down
You've Got A Lot To Answer For
Baby, It's Cold Outside featuring Tom Jones
Karaoke Queen
Lost Cat
I Am The Mob.
Good
news I suppose, but in truth I am a little bit unenthused.
Reeks of a record label trying to squeeze every last penny
out of the band, and putting The Ballad of Tom Jones and Baby,
It's Cold Outside on the album is a dead giveaway. Still,
I'll buy it...
CERYS
MATTHEWS RETURNS!
6th July 2002 11.30am Posted by: Ross Oh
Joy! Cerys has retuned with her new site, cerysmatthews.info.
It includes a weekly diary (which is fantastic) and a place
where you can send messages to Cerys. To be honest it's all
excellent, and I am so excited. For that reason, cerysmatthews.info
is now the site of the moment.
RANDOM
RUBBISH
18th June 2002 2pm Posted by: Ross Just
surfing around I stumbled on VH1's "100 Greatest"
lists. Sadly, Catatonia do not feature in the "100 Greatest
Albums", which is currently being shown on VH1, however
a bit randomly Cerys Matthews doesn't appear in the "100
Greatest Women", but Catatonia do. Surprisingly enough,
Catatonia are the 42nd Greatest Woman, just below Garbage
and ahead of M People (apparently lead singers no longer have
names). Lovely to know, and not a bad position until you realise
that the public have voted Melanie C in at number 21 (ahead
of Diana Ross). I've said it once and I'll say it again, democracy
doesn't work...
I'M
NOT DEAD - EXCLUSIVE
15th June 2002 11.30pm Posted by: Ross No,
I'm not dead, and neither is this site (although the same
can't be said for Catatonia). Absolutely nothing has been
happening over the past few months (and believe me, I've been
trying to find info).
A
couple of rumours have been flying around, one of which (and
this comes from a reliable source so
I am inclined to believe it) is that Cerys' new album will
be called "Nashville" and she has collaborated,
in one way or another, with Bob Dylan. Unfortunately I have
been unable to substantiate the rumour, but any more info
and I'll let you know.
One
thing which might be of interest which has certainly passed
me by (although no doubt everyone else knew and just decided
not to tell me), Virgin Radio released their Top 500 singles
of all time list in December 2001. Mulder and Scully features
at 453, Road Rage at 332. The full list is available here.
And
so brings us to the end of my first update since good knows
when. If anyone has any rumours they'd like to send me, just
to alleviate my boredom, please don't hesitate to email
me.
CERYS
TO PLAY FESTIVAL?
21st March 2002 11.30pm Posted by: Ross Apologies
for lack of updates - I'm really busy and I've been killing
myself at Uni so time ain't plentiful.
News
though - Cerys to play a festival? Well, the Lorient Celtic
Festival in Brittany, come August, according to ICWales.
Wales is the featured nation of the festival this year, and
Cerys is being tipped to headline the Welsh delegation. Fantastic.
Also
a big thank you to everyone who bid for Cerys' t-shirt in
the Amnesty International auction, they raised in excess of
£660 in total from the Cerys shirt and Manics memorabilia.
The Cerys shirt was the top earner, the winner paying £360.
Well done.
CERYS
TO PLAY CHARITY GIG
8th March 2002 6.25pm Posted by: Ross Cerys
is going to be playing a charity gig at London's Scala on
April 18th. The gig is a fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer
Care and is in memory of the late Scott Piering, a "legendary
TV and radio "plugger"" who worker for every
performer on the bill. Cerys joins the Stereophonics, Placebo
and Embrace among others to announce they will be playing
the gig. Each set will last for 20 minutes.
CERYS
TO MAKE APPEARANCE ON RADIO 2, PLUS SHE WINS STARS IN YOUR
EYES!
2nd March 2002 8.30pm Posted by: Ross Hey
guys. Firstly thanks again to Dave Tipler who has informed
me of the fact that Cerys will be making an appearance on
BBC Radio 2 in the UK this coming Monday (4th March) on the
programme "Live from the Stables", at 9pm. NME comments
she seems to be descending into old fogeydom. Don't know about
that, but can't say I'm a fan of the new fringe...
She
has also won through her Stars in Your Eyes heat. No, she
hasn't descended that far, but she was impersonated on the
famous programme tonight, and she won! This means that she
will be back for the final later in the year.
PERFORMANCE
DOESN'T HAPPEN AND AMNESTY AUCTION
19th February 2002 11.55pm Posted by: Ross Firstly
I have to print an apology, it would seem that the gig I reported
below which Cerys was supposedly meant to be performing at
was a hoax. NME printed an article which rumoured Cerys to
be performing, and she didn't. Sadly I didn't ifnd this out
until today, and so I apologise. Thanks
go to Dave Tipler for pointing this out!
Also
I have been asked to inform you all of the auction Amnest
International Cardiff Group are holding on the 1st of March
for 10 days. The auction has four items up for grabs, three
of which are Manics memorabilia and one Catatonia. They are:
1
T-shirt worn by Cerys Matthews on TV
1 Drumstick used by Sean Moore during the Manic's historic
show in Havana, autographed by all the band.
1 Promo 1 track CD of "Masses Against the Classes",
fully signed by all the band.
1 Signed copy of "Know Your Enemy"
You
can get more information about the auction, and the causes
your bids will go to support by visiting the Amnesty International
Cardiff Group's website.
CERYS
PERFORMING TONIGHT, RUMOURS FOR NEW ALBUM
13th February 2002 6.20pm Posted by: Ross Cerys
will be performing a short set tonight at the Cafe de Paris
in London. She will be joined by Placebo singer Brian Molko
and Boy George at the club night "Merkin". Details
of her set are sadly unknown, but if anyone attends and would
like to review the performance please let
me know!
Also
rumours have started circulating about the content of Cerys'
new album. Planet Sound is reportedly suggesting is will be
a Welsh Language collection of Folk music.
Don't
forget that from 8pm tonight the BBC Radio 2 website
should have a full feature on the Folk Awards held in London
on Monday night. Cerys' performance should be available, so
check it out A.S.A.P.!
FOLK
AWARDS TO BE BROADCAST ON BBC RADIO 2
1st February 2002 6.20pm Posted by: Ross The
BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, at which Cerys Matthews will be performing
live and presenting an award, will be broadcast two days after
the event on February 13th 2002 at 8pm. The programme will
contain extended highlights, and it seems likely that Cerys'
performance will be part of it.
CERYS
TO GO INTO STUDIO
30th January 2002 10pm Posted by: Ross Cerys
Matthews is to return to the recording studio next month,
writes Dotmusic.
It has been rumoured that she already has a record contract
with Warners, the label with whom Catatonia were signed, and
the music she will be recording is said to be "very different
from the sound with the band".
CATATONIA
MARCH ON WITHOUT CERYS?
24th January 2002 7pm Posted by: Ross Aled
Richards, Catatonia's drummer, has stated on the record that
he and the other members of the band (apart from Cerys) have
continued to work together recently and are going to be going
into the studio soon to record new material. They will not
be releasing any material under the name Catatonia, and there
is some speculation as to whether or not a new vocalist will
be recruited. He also spoke of how "strange" it
feels to be completely out of touch with Cerys, after (he
believes) she was told to "move in different circles"
from the rest of the band.
In
other news Cerys Matthews will be presenting one of the awards
at this years BBC Folk Awards in London.
The ceremony will be held on February 11th.
CERYS
PERFORMS SOLO FOR FIRST TIME SINCE SPLIT
19th January 8.30pm Posted by: Ross Cerys
Matthews has made her first solo appearance since Catatonia
split up in September. She sang three songs (Keep the Home
Fires Burning, Calon La^ n and Bachgan Bach O Dincer) for
the St David's Day programme, recorded to be broadcast on
BBC Wales on March 1st.
The
producer of the programme, Chris Stuart, wrote the soundtrack
to Welsh childrens programme Sali Mali, a soundtrack which
Cerys performed.
As
the programme is aimed at a Welsh audience it is unlikely
it will be screened nationaly, however the programme makers
Presentable
Productions may well put it up in their "Television
--> Entertainment" section in RealPlayer format after
it's screening, as they have done with their other successes.

- Finally
Cerys has returned (well, to the spotlight), with her new
site which includes diary entries for her still ongoing experiences
in Nashville (where she is recording the new album), as well
as a place to send her messages. It's just plain fantastic,.
